To familiarise you thoroughly with the mechanical construction of the W8 and W12 engines, we will
now describe the main modules of both engines in succession.

The following topics will be dealt with:

- the crankcase with bearing support,


- the crankshaft with conrods and pistons,
- the balancing shafts,
- the cylinder heads,
- the oil sump and oil pump,
- the crankshaft drive,
- the timing chain drive,
- the belt drive for auxiliary components and
