examples.
● Mass communication
● Sharing of information across the globe
- Ex. A college graduate wants to work in California. Luckily, he/ she found a job hiring
website in Los Angeles looking for diligent employees. After filling up the resume,
he/she received an email asking for an interview via zoom.
● Globalization of markets
● Cross-cultural management
- Ex. “In order to develop internationally, Rakuten, Inc., a Japanese online retailer and
web services provider, switched its official language from Japanese to English. Despite
challenges including objections from Japanese employees and rebukes from other
Japanese businesses, they have succeeded in expanding worldwide and now employ a
more diversified staff.”
B. List the negative effects of Digital Age and Globalization on Communication Ethics. Cite specific
examples.
● Risk of Privacy
● Cyber crime
- Ex. A student went to the internet cafe for her research assignment, while at it she also
opened her Facebook account, while scrolling, she saw an advertisement which says
“Congratulations you won 1.2 Billion, click here to claim your prize” and when she did,
she was locked out in her account, her account was hacked.
● Spreading of misinformation
- Ex. When someone saw an intriguing post or article on Facebook, he/she automatically
shared it without fact-checking the content. Many people saw his/her post, and some
of them spread it without checking. Many people may get misinformed as a result of
this.

C. List, discuss and highlight the importance of observing ethics in written and spoken
communication. Point out specific actual observed results when appropriate ethics is NOT practiced
in written and spoken communication. What should have been done to avoid such unfortunate
situations?
A person's language would be formed by acquiring and observing each ethical norm and regulation in
written and spoken communication. In a far better world, judgment would be expressed in a clear and
explicit manner to others. Thus, the ethical communicator realizes and has an advantageous
communication that it is crucial not only what you say, but also how you express it. Results such as the
opposing person would lash out due to the disrespectful behavior of the speaker due to not following
the ethics of communication. What the speaker should have done is be respectful to the opposing
person and not pry sensitive information to avoid displaying disrespectful behavior.

Furthermore, written and oral communication ethics serve as a strong tool in establishing the integrity of
people in an organization. When information is not delivered truthfully, it can lead to deceptive message
delivery. Distrust can develop as a result of this which can lead to the damage of the communicator’s
reputation. An instance in which this has actually been observed is when certain social media
personalities delivered false information against certain political figures. This resulted in false
accusations that were eventually proven false as no evidence was ever presented. This in turn resulted in
the loss of trust and the eventual degradation of the reputations of these social media personalities. The
reason behind this deception was for these personalities to benefit in terms of user traffic in their social
media pages. This would clearly have been avoided if the social media personalities chose not to peddle
false information or to simply not publish anything that was clearly untrue at all.
