BASIC ELEMENTS OF DESIGN

1. LINE
THIS ELEMENTS refers to the way that two points in space are connected.
Lines can be vertical, horizontal, diagonal, circular, patterned, free
form or solid. REGARDLESS OF ITS ORIENTATION, IT CAN BE used as roadmaps
to direct the viewer’s eye movements toward a certain point in A
composition.

2. SHAPE
SHAPES ARE outlined two-dimensional area THAT are often used to
emphasize a portion of the page. TheRE ARE three basic types of shapes
SUCH AS Geometric (Circles, Squares, Triangles etc.), Natural (leaves,
mountains, people etc.) and abstract (icons, stylizations and graphic
representations).

3. COLOR
THIS ELEMENT can stand alone, as a background, or be applied to other
elements TO PRODUCE AN IDEAL IMAGERY. Every color PORTRAYS different
THINGS, and VARIOUS COLOR combinations can alter ANY IMPRESSION. IT IS
A POWERFUL TOOL TO ESTABLISH A mood within the piece, graphic interest
and unify branding.

4. TEXTURE
THIS ELEMENT represent the surface of an object, how an object appears
or feels WHICH heighten THE sensory experience OF A VIEWER. TEXTURE ALSO
creates an illusion THAT a surface Is not flat or smooth, GIVING DEPTH TO
AN IMAGE.

5. SCALE (SIZE)
THIS ELEMENT is used to express importance, draw attention and create
contrast. IT DIVERTS THE ATTENTION OF THE VIEWER TO A SIGNIFICANT PART OF
A PIECE.

6. VALUE
THIS ELEMENT REFERS TO THE LIGHTNESS OR DARKNESS OF AN AREA. THE COLOR
VALUES ARE often visualized in a gradient, which displays a series of
variations on one hue, arranged from the lightest to the darkest.

7. SPACE
Space IS the area around the elements in a design. IT is used to separate
or group information. IN DESIGNING THERE IS A “NEGATIVE SPACE” WHICH
REFERS TO white space which is used to connect, separate or maximize
the relationship between the elements making up the design.
