Electronic Communication

Electronic communication can take the form of emails, social media, video conferencing, fax
messages, mobile phones etc.

Advantages:
1. Messages can be transmitted easily and quickly in seconds
2. It makes communication across borders possible allowing people to have meetings
3. It is inexpensive since emails and social media are almost free.

Disadvantages:
1. There may be security issues such as hackers gaining access to confidential information.
2. The message may be undelivered due to errors in the systems.

Barriers to communication
1. Language barriers – the receiver of the message may not understand the jargon used by
the sender;
2. Wrong medium chosen – the medium chosen was not suitable for the message being
sent e.g. sad news such as sending home employees should be done face to face not via
a letter;
3. Information over load - too much information given at one time can confuse the
receiver;
4. Emotional Interference – the current emotion of both or either the sender or receiver
can affect their judgement of the message being sent or received;
