Par cet appel a candidature, la Banque Mondiale a voulu mettre en ceuvre un nouveau meécanisme de financement de |'enseignement supérieur en Afrique a travers la specialisation regionale des universités africaines. Au total, 52 universités de sept (07) participants ont soumis des propositions dans le cadre du projet. Il s'agit du Nigéria, du Ghana, du Benin, du Togo, du Burkina-Faso, du Cameroun et du Sénégal. Des quatre (04) projets que le Bénin a soumis a travers l'universite d'Abomey-Calavi et l'Universite de Parakou, seul le Projet de Centre d'Excellence Africain en Sciences Mathématiques et Applications (CEA-SMA) de l'Institut de Mathématiques et de Sciences Physiques (IMSP) de Dangbo a été retenu pour un financement global de quatre milliards de francs CFA (huit millions de dollars). Une prouesse qui ne surprend pas ! Ce boom en avant de I|'IMSP a ete rendu possible grace a |l'excellence qui a toujours caracteérise cet institut et aussi grace a |'equipe dynamique, ambitieuse et laboureuse dont le Professeur Leonard TODJIHOUNDE assure la direction. Le Centre d'Excellence Africain en Sciences Mathematiques et Applications est donc un Projet de I'IMSP dont la mise en ceuvre a démarre depuis le 19 decembre 2014. Prevu pour durer quatre (4) ans, couvrant la période 2014-2018, il a recemment bénéficié d'un avenant dont la durée s'acheve en Mars 2020.History of the ACE-MSA Project In July 2013, the World Bank launched a call for projects for the benefit of sub-Saharan African universities whose project selection process included a regional merit-based competition. Through this call for applications, the World Bank wanted to implement a new financing mechanism for higher education in Africa through the regional specialization of African universities. A total of 52 universities from seven (07) participants submitted proposals to the project. These are Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Senegal. Of the four (04) projects that Benin has submitted through the University of Abomey-Calavi and the University of Parakou, only the African Centre of Excellence in Mathematical Sciences and Applications (ACE-MSA) project of the Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (IMPS) in Dangbo has been selected for a total funding of four billion CFA francs (eight million dollars). A performance that does not come as a surprise! This boom ahead of the IMPS was made possible thanks to the excellence that has always characterized this institute and also thanks to the dynamic, ambitious and hardworking team led by Professor Leonard TODJIHOUNDE. The African Centre of Excellence in Mathematical Sciences and Applications Is therefore an IMPS Project whose implementation started on 19 December 2014. Scheduled to last four (4) years, covering the period 2014-2018, it was recently granted an amendment whose duration ends in March 2020.LE MOT DU COORDONNATEUR DU CEA-SMA Jit Testa | e Centre d'Excellence Africain en Sciences Mathématiques et Applications (CEA-SMA) se propose de mettre a la disposition de la sous-réegion, des formations diversifiees et de qualité de niveaux Master et Doctorat axées sur les défis du développement, dans les domaines des mathematiques, de la Recherche operationnelle, de la sécurite informatique, de la statistique avec un accent particulier sur leurs applications en industries, en sante publique et en sciences sociales. Pour atteindre le haut standing de formation et de recherche auquel il aspire, le Centre se base sur la mutualisation du capital humain qualifieé, d'un réseau d'institutions de formation et de recherche nationales et appuyé par des partenaires d'institutions internationales. Cette mutualisation entre partenaires se fait sous la forme d'echanges d'enseignants et d'étudiants, de co-encadrements d'etudiants et d'organisation conjointe de séeminaires, de conferences ou d'écoles de recherche. Notre formation en mathematique fondamentale a eté accreditée pour cing ans sans conditions par le Haut Conseil de |’Evaluation de la Recherche et de l’Enseignement Supérieur (HCERES), une institution internationale d’accréditation. Nous avons aussi une accréditation du HCERES pour nos formations en Informatique avec une revue en juillet 2020. Des partenariats entre institutions de formations et entreprises sont mis en place et vont s'éetoffer davantage pour un meilleur alignement des profils de formation sur les exigences du marche de l'emploi et l'obtention des stages pratiques en entreprises pour les apprenants. Il s'agit de mettre a contribution a travers ces partenariats entre institutions de formation et entreprises, l'expertise des professionnels du secteur des entreprises dans les formations de type professionnel. Nous comptons sur vous pour que le CEA en sciences mathematiques du Benin renforce la formation des cadres de notre sous-région ! —_THE MESSAGE OF THE COORDINATOR OF THE ACE-MSA Jit Totta T he African Centre of Excellence in Mathematical Sciences and Applications (ACE-MSA) aims to provide the sub-region with diversified and high-quality Master's and PhD level training focused on development challenges in the fields of mathematics, operational research, computer security and statistics, with a particular focus on their applications in industry, public health and social sciences. To achieve the high standard of training and research to which it aspires, the Centre is based on the pooling of qualified human capital, a network of national training and research institutions and supported by partners from international institutions. This mutualisation between partners takes the form of exchanges of teachers and students, co-supervision of students and the joint organisation of seminars, conferences or research schools. An extension and strengthening of institutional partnerships is planned. Our training in fundamental mathematics has been accredited for five years without conditions by the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERHE), an international accreditation institution. We also have HCERHE accreditation for our IT training courses with a review in July 2020. Partnerships between training institutions and companies are being established and will be further developed to better align training profiles with employment market requirements and to obtain practical internships in companies for learners. Through these partnerships between training institutions and companies, the aim is to make use of the expertise of professionals in the business sector in professional training. Students are recruited throughout the sub-region with selection criteria that respect the rules of equity and gender approach. Continuous training is provided for public administration and business executives to build their capacity.
