Chapter Notes

I'm Tartaglia, also known as Childe by my close friends.

I'm currently getting ready for my volleyball match with Liyues best volleyball team "Adepti" . It
was a regular annual match. But we were competing with Liyues middle schoolers last time. Now
we are competing with the high schoolers.

The middle schoolers team consisted of , Chongyun, Xinqui, Xiangling, Hu Tao, Yunjin, and
Xinyan. I looked at the Post board which includes all the team members

The high school team is, Ganyu, Zhongli, Xiao, Yanfei, Cloud retainer, and Moon carver.

I didn't know any of the people in the high school team, but I was still excited to play against them.

I'm in the volleyball group "Fatui" I play the Ace in the the group

I was looking as the other group was getting their shoes tied and putting their knee pads on.

One boy caught my eye. He has brown hair that faded into gold, he has bright amber eyes that
shown, he was pretty tall around my height. I smiled.

"Hey Childe come on let's start warming up" I heard my teammate dottore say.

I jogged over their as they stretched their arms. I started stretching then we ran 3 laps around the
court. I could get a closer look at him, as I ran near him I saw him stretching his hands and doing
some setting warm ups by tossing the ball up and down with his fingertips.

He must be a setter I chuckled.

I quickly finished my 3 laps and the team got together, our coach, Tsaritsa, told us to wait for the
other team to finish warming up and then we practice our serves.

Both of the coaches from each team,Tsartitsa, and Madame Ping, told us we can start serving.

I threw the ball up, I raised my hand and slightly jumped before slamming my hand to the ball. I
tried aiming infront if the pretty boy to catch his attention, until I realized my stupidity.

The pretty boy moved forward to serve and my ball was curving right towards him.

Almost as if the ball was in slow motion I quickly shouted

"Watch out!"

The pretty boy turned to look at me before the ball slammed right near his shoulder and neck. I
underestimated my serve but it was hard enough to push him to the floor. Everything went silent
for a moment as he was on the floor trying to recollect what just happened.

I boy with blue-ish black-ish hair ran towards him.

"Zhongli are you alright!?" He quickly ran and sat down next to zhongli

Zhongli was rubbing his shoulder and neck (where the ball hit)

I hoped that since we were all serving they wouldn't notice it was me who hit it. But to my dismay
my teammates and the other team glared at me.

I sighed.

"Kids kids, someone's down, we will play 1 game then maybe tomorrow or the day after we can
have our match" Madame Ping said to everyone.

Zhongli was sat on a bench near Madame ping and all the water bottles and bags. He had an ice
pack and still looked like he was processing what happened.

I sighed, I'll probably talk to him after the game and maybe take him out for dinner as an apology.
In hopes he forgives me.

The game started, Team Adepti served first, the boy who helped Zhongli serves first, he look a bit
small but strong.

He served powerfully getting it down making us unable to hit it back up.

"Good job Xiao!" I could hear a girl from the team say

He served again this time my teammate Scaramouch bumped it. Dottore passed it to Signora, the
setter, before Signora set it to me, I jumped high and hit it.

A girl with light blue hair bumped it.

Cloud retainer set it to Moon carver, Moon carver hit it with force. Earning a point for team
Adepti.

The game continued until the scores were,

23-21 Adepti 23 and Fatui 21

I looked over to zhongli. He looked miserable. Hurt and wanting to play with his team.

I really owe him.

The game finished, surprisingly with how tight the points were,we won, a 23 - 25. Probably since
their setter wasn't there so I'll count us as lucky,

We all got drinks and started changing our shoes and taking off our knee pads.
I walked over to Zhongli

He was still sitting down, he looked up at me slightly confused tilting his head.

God he was so cute.

"Aha, hey, I was the one who accidentally hit you, I'm really really sorry I promise to get you
dinner or something for forgiveness." I awkwardly said

He smiled

"It's no worries it doesn't hurt that bad, sometimes you can't see where you're hitting , leading to
multiple bad serves, but sure I'll accept you apology with a dinner" Zhongli said.

That was really passive aggressive, but he's cute.

"So Wanmin restaurant after the game?" I said

He nodded.

I heard Signora calling me.

"Sorry I have to go, I'll see you soon, sorry once again hope you feel better!" I turned to look at his
team to see them all glaring at me, I excused myself then went with my team.

Zhonglis POV:

"What did he say!?" Xiao said to Zhongli

"Oh nothing just apologizing" Zhongli responded.

The team looked at eachother.

"He probably did it on purpose" moon carver said.

"I doubt that" Zhongli responded.

"Well dear, I did see him very focused on trying to get the ball near you" Madame ping responded
upon hearing the small argument.

"See! Such a bastard" Xiao said.

Zhongli sighed. "It was probably an accident who would just hit me for no reason? I never meant
him"

"People are like that rude for now reason probably jealous" Ganyu said.

Zhongli shook his head.

"On purpose or not, try not to do a lot of stuff so we can have this match as soon as possible" cloud
retainer said looking at zhongli.

Zhongli sighed.

They got their bags together and walked out. Xiao and Zhongli live in the same apartment complex
so they walked to their apartments together.

Zhongli dropped of Xiao before going to his own apartment.

When zhongli got to his apartment his mouth was dry and neck and shoulder still hurt. Well atleast
he knows team fatui has a good server.

His body still ached a bit but some resting and he'll be good to go.

I walked with the team back to the bus which will take us to our hotel in Liyue.

"Childe you dumbass, you hit the setter of their team" I heard scaramouche say.

"It was and accident and plus I offered to take him out to dinner as an apology" I said

"We all know that it wasn't for an apology" I heard Signora say.

I sighed and walked inside the bus taking my place near the back.

We arrived at the hotel and I saw a big sign saying "wangshu inn" I took my bags and pulled them
over my shoulder.

I walked up the stairs to my room I shared a room with my teammate scaramouch.

I got in put my bags down changed to just pants. I brushed my team and head to bed.

I'm starting to really feel bad about the boy I hit, not that I didn't feel bad earlier but it's really
hitting me now.

Oh well I'll just wait till the next match

————— time skip to rematch ————-

We were back in the gym. I saw zhongli there, he put his long hair in a bun and started doing arm
stretches.

We ran around the gym then did arm exercises.

I saw the other team passing the ball to eachother.

Our coaches announced we will start practicing our serves and spikes.

I got a ball and went near the back of the court, I ran slightly jumping while throwing the ball up
and hit it. It hit the other side of the court with a loud boom.

I saw the other team hitting their servers.

I saw zhongli walk throw the ball up and hit it, it looked like a soft serve but it slammed on the
other side of the, that would definitely trick me into moving closer to the net and not on the back
side.

The coach yelled the match will start now, we all got in our positions. I was on the right of the
setter. While zhongli was in setter position.

Xiao was serving first, He threw the ball up jumped and slammed it. Dottore managed to get the
ball. He passed the ball to Signora which was in the setting position,

Signora sett it to me and I ran my feet sliding across the ground before jumping and spiking it.

Yanfei, the libero of team Adepti shot the ball back up, Cloud retainer passed it to Zhongli,
Zhongli then set to Ganyu, we ran to block Ganyu, atleast We thought Zhongli passed it to Ganyu,

Zhongli set the ball backwards and Moon Carver jumped hitting the ball slamming it down on the
floor.

The whistle blue and the referee moved his hand to Team Adepit and the score board changed,

Adepti Fatui

The game continued, all could be heard were shoes sliding and jumping on the court, and the balls
being thrown up and slammed on the court.

Sweating we continued rotating and playing.

The game was becoming very close but we were loosing.

Adepti Fatui

-24 -23

Their team needed 1 more point then they win. We needed to step our game up.

I ran threw the ball up jumped and hit the ball, it curved last minute catching everybody unaware,
Ace!

We were tied now, I ran once again threw the ball up jumped and hit it, Yanfei shot it up, but it
turned to the left, ganyu managed to hit it back in, Cloud retainer bumped the ball to Zhongli, Xiao
and Moon carver ran up to spike the ball, we would need 2 blockers since we were unsure where
the ball would hit.

I blocked Xiao and Scaramouche and Signora blocked moon carver, we heard the ball hit the
floor..

The referee said their arms too Team Adepti and the beep went, Team Adepti won?

That's when I realized instead of Zhongli setting to one of the Aces be set the ball over the net,
well he got me there Aha.

"Good job Zhongli!" Yanfei said going to him.

Zhongli smiled.

We lined up in a row to bow and say

"Good game"

Team Adepti went to go get ready, taking sips of water and started taking their knee caps of.

Our team did the same.

Once we were all ready I walked over to team Adepti, I had my bag with volleyball stuff in it, some
tennis and shorts with a varsity jacket of our team.

I walked over to Zhongli,

He was still getting all his stuff prepared

"Hey!" I said standing in front of him.

"Oh, hello" he responded.

"So I was looking at some places and I found Wanmin Restaurant. It's near the harbor so I thought
it would be nice, you know.. for an, apology..yea, I've never been there though " I said rubbing the
back of my head. Totally just for an apology.

He nodded "its a very nice place I go there with the team sometimes" he said.

I nodded. Once he was ready we both said bye to our teams and headed out.

I checked my watch and it read '6:12pm'

"So how long have you been playing volleyball?" I asked trying to start a conversation

"Mhm, not long only around 2 years" he spoke in a deep elegant voice.

I nodded, we entered the restaurant and found a spot to sit down.

"You live here In Liyue right?" I asked Zhongli

"Yes I was born here, I've only every visited one place outside Liyue, which is Mondstatd" Zhongli
replied

"Where are you from?" Zhongli asked me.

"Oh Im from Snezhnaya" I told him.

He nodded in response "how's it like there in Snezhnaya?"

"Oh Snezhnaya is very cold, it rains a lot and snows, and all the lakes freeze ,but me and my
sibling enjoy ice fishing" I exclaimed very excited to talk about my home country.

"Your siblings?" Zhongli asked

"Yup I have three, Teucer, Anthon, and Tonia, do you have siblings?" I asked him

"I have 2, Azhdaha and Osial, I'm the middle child" Zhongli said putting his hand to his chest.

I nodded "We have a lot in common" I said looking at the menu.. "now i don't know Chinese so I'll
leave it up to you to order, the bills on me" I said.

He nodded looking at the menu and waiting for the waitress to come over get their order.

The waitress walked over to our table

"What would you like today?" She asked us

"We'll take the bamboo shoot stew and the Stone Harbor delicacies" Zhongli said handing the
menu over to the waiter.

"And for drinks?" The waiter asked taking the menu from Zhongli

Zhongli looked at me basically asking what for drinks.

"Oh just some water" I said.

The waitress nodded and left.

"what are your interest?What are you good?" Zhongli said clearly trying to start a conversation.

"Well I'm really good and claw machine game not to brag" I said.

"Well there is some claw machines in front of the harbor" Zhongli said.

"Oh really we should go their after dinner!" I said.

He simply nodded.

We talked some more before the food came, it was a bowl with what i suppose was the bamboo
shoot stew, and a plate which i think was the other dish he ordered but can't remember the name.
The waitress gave us chopsticks a bowl and a plate.

"Enjoy your meal" she said and left.

We thanked her, I saw Zhongli pick up the chopsticks and get food to add to his plate.

"Do they only have chopsticks here?" I asked him

"To truly enjoy Liyues Gastronomy you must eat it with chopsticks"

He said bringing the food to his mouth smiling.

I sighed and attempted to stab the food and put it in my mouth.

We continued eating in a comfortable silence enjoying our food until we were fully done.

We looked at each other basically signaling we are done and asking for the check.
I quickly payed then we left the restaurant.

"Where are the claw machines?" I asked looking

Zhongli smiled "follow me"

He took my hand and started walking down by the harbor. I was sorta stunned by the sudden action
but u simply just held his hand and followed him down. He brought me to some claw machines.

He looked back at me before we stopped holding hands.

"Which one has the cutest stuffed animals?" I asked looking at.

"Mhm" he said "this one.." he said pointing at a claw machine with a whale stuffed animal.

I nodded and took out a dollar, I moved the joystick aiming for the whale plushie.

Zhongli stood next to me watching me.

I lined it up and push the button, the whale plushie moved a bit but I managed to get it, I went
down to pick it up, I looked at Zhongli and he seemed amazed, adorable.

I gave him the plushie, he was a bit shocked when I tried handing it over.

"Here take it" I told him

He nodded. Why was he so silent now?

"Childe" Zhongli said stopping by the harbor still holding the whale plushie.

"Yea?" I said going right in front of him.

"Remember when you hit me with the ball?" He said

I sorta just stood still hoping we would forget it but here we are, "yea sorry about that" I said

Zhongli looked at me, "were you trying to hit me on purpose? I find it hard how an Ace like you
Can accidentally hit someone" he said

"Oh" I said

Zhongli looked at me slightly confused.

"Well it wasn't really an accident" I admitted

Zhing Ku looked a bit shocked and my confession.

"Let explain, let me explain!" I said "basically when I first saw you I thought you were really pretty
and really good looking so I wanted to try to get your attention by serving the ball near you, but I
miscalculated and when I served it you were getting ready to hit your serve and well you know
what happens next" I looked down slightly embarrassed.

Zhongli stood there for a moment not saying anything, did I upset him?

He took a step closer and put his hand on my chin so that I'm looking at him.

He stepped slightly closer giving my small kiss. I was stunned

My face started getting ready and I just couldn't look away.

"So you think I'm really pretty a good looking?" Zhongli said with a cheeky smile.

I just nodded. Before calming down and putting my hands around his wait, Zhongli put one hand
on my cheek and another holding the plushie,
 We out our faces so close we could feel each other breathing.

I pushed my face near his lips meeting again this time bringing home a long loving kiss.

We kissed for a while before parting lips and looking at each other

Zhongli giggled, I just smiled looking at him.

"Well I did hit you so it was worth the shot" I said looking at him lovingly

"I can't tell if your trying to flirt with me or talking about the volleyball match but both fit" he
laughed

"Just count it as both" I smiled leaning in for another kiss.
