Instructions Model A30 Amplifier 30-watt Circlotron High-Fidelity Line Amplifier ELECTRO-VOICE, INC Cees ICE) GENERAL DESCRIPTION—The Electro-Voice Model A30 amplifier is a high quality 300wat line amplifier with provision for sipping the power necessary {0 operate associated remote control and preamplifier equipment. Convenient plugin connections are provided for this purpose. The polished cheome and black baked enamel finish presents an attractive appearance and provides max: ‘um protection against corrosion. FEATURES—No output tube DC in transformer. ‘The Model A30 employs the ew Wiggins CIRCLOTRON circuitt, DC output ‘he output tansformer through the use of a bridge circuit. All witching tan rent is removed from sients are eliminated through unity coupling of output tubes; class AB, operation is effected with the resultant improvements in power output, efficiency and tube life. The primary impedance of the output tansformes is one quarter of that found in conventional amplifier ourput cieuits, afording a vas increase ia pow’ = ‘output at extremes of the frequency spectrum, A damping factor conuol permits perfect coupling between the amplifier and Joudspeaker system eliminating the usual loss of bass feom overdamping or ( hangover due to. underdamping. If damage is evidenced, notify the dealer from whom the unit was purchased, ‘of the transportation company ifthe unit was shipped to you. Responsibility for Shipping damage lies with the carrier and claim should he made for recovery. ' ] MOUNTING—The Ao may be mounted either ia a upright positon or vel cally, with the controls toward the top oF boston. “The amplifier is supplied with rubber feet fo prevent marring of the surface on which it ie placed, For mounting in a vertial position oF for fxed upright Fig. 4—Power vs. intermodulation mounting (See Fig. 5 “Alixing Mouating Brackets") remove these feet by Distortion ‘extracting the screws located in the center of each rubber foot. Install one ‘mounting bracket in the desized location on supporting wall or surface with the hhooks pointing up. Install the second mounting bracket on the lower ead of the bottom plate with the hooks facing down. Place the ampliier so thatthe hooks fon mounted bracket engage the chee cutouts on the bottom plate nearest the top tnd fasten the second mounting bracket to the supporting wall or surface, Reason able ventilation i required, and the unit should not be operated in small, com pletely enclosed spaces, Brackets may also be used for permanent horizootal ‘mounting. Under unusual conditions of very restricted ventilation, the tube and component cover may be removed 10 assist cooling, Special brackets are avail able for rack mounting: order in pairs as Part No. 72094 PREPARATION FOR USE Make certain chat all wabes ate firmly seated in the proper sockets as marked. Connect the loudspeaker or other load to che ampli fier using the two black bananaype plugs supplied. Matching to aay load between approximately 3 and 20 ohms may be obtained by plugging into che ‘prong. socket on the rear apron of the amplifer. Use the pins marked COMMON" and either "4", "8", or "16", whichever is nearest the load in- pedance. De not externally ground any portion of the output erent. A cO0-ohm balanced output is alo available at this socket. When using 2 600-ohm load, do ‘not connect to the “COMMON” pia, ‘The Electro-Voice PRCI or PRC2 remote control ensemble is recommended for use with the A30 amplifier. Two sockets fon the zear apron of the amplifier are provided co supply power to this equiP- ‘ment. Connect the input signal to the jack marked "SIGNAL" oa the sear apron ‘of che amplifier, using plog supplied, if deste. r) CONTROLS—Three knobs and one screwdriver adjustment are located near the Cs right front corner on top of the amplifier. The gain conwol adjusts the sensitivity Fig. 5 — Affixing Mounting Brackets of the amplifier to match the asociated equipment “The damping control is 29 Electr-Voice development designed to permit precise matching of the A30 10 any existing speaker system. Consult table for correct Settings for Electto-Voice speaker systems. Adjust for most pleasing sound if no data is available for other loads. For maximum damping (low internal imped- tance), wen knob completely clockwise, When using 60 ‘The power “ON-OFF-REMOTE” switch functions as the A30. “ON-OFF switch when poster coauol is desired at the amplifier location, The PRC units ate also controled by tis swith For remote contzol of the equipment, when concealment of the ampliéer is desied, turn this switch to the “OFF-REMOTE” position. This will allow the PRC preamplifier power switch to function as the master power contcol ‘A bum balancing control is provided for use when the amplifier is used with Flecio-Voice PRC1 of PRC2 somote control equipment. To adjust this hum control, remove the acorn nut by turning counterclockwise. This will expose the secewdriver slot adjustment. Adjust for minimum hum under operation conditions, Replace acorn nut. No hum adjustment is required unless the PRE LINE-POWER SERVICE FOR OTHER EQUIPMENT Two line power outputs are provided on the rear apron of the amplifier. The one macked "HOT supplies the power whenever the amplider is plugged in segardless of the power switch Position. Such an outlet is commonly used for devices having their own on of switch. Use of this outer will permit 4 record changer to complete a change cycle before complete shutoff. The outlet marked "SWITCHED" is live only ‘when the amplifier is turned on and may be used to contol the tuner, TV set, ete The power onoff switch should be se at "OFF-REMOTE” position when the amplifier is conteoled by PRC units, SERVICE—The 2-ampere fuse located on the rest apron of the amplifier is of the "slo-blo" 3AG type and in the event of a component faihine should be replaced with an identical 2ampere type. ‘The fuse will not blow in normal ‘operation. In the even of repeated failure: (4) make certain amplifier is mounced and connected in accordance with these instructions, (b) check tubes for possible shorts and replace if necessary, or (€) tefer to the deales from whom purchased for instructions. Access to tubes may be gained by removing the two screws focated on ether side of the top of the protective cage, This eage may then be removed. Do not attempr to operate the amplifier without all tubes in place cond plate caps connecte CAUTION NOTES 1, Do not operate amplifier in an overloaded condition for a period of time, a8 ‘his will substantially shorten the life ofthe output tubes. Do not attempt to operate the amplifier on a power source other than 103-125 60 cycle AC. OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES— Mode!
