Update on Immanuel & St Andrew Schools support to issue of Primary School Pupil Place Pressure
As many you will be aware, our school has taken enormous steps over the past three years to support the demand from our local community for primary school pupil places. By September 2011, when our third additional Reception joins the school, we will have grown to offer 300 places from Reception to Year Six. As you will all appreciate, this piecemeal expansion can not continue as the schools current layout has reached its capacity. To support continuing accommodation of additional Reception classes from 2012 onwards will require a careful redevelopment of the school site. To provide more places Lambeth have completed a feasibility study and concluded that redevelopment plans are possible at our school site. Before any plans are shared for wider consultation and governor approval the funds have to be released from central government. The school now needs the support of its parents and community members to email the secretary of state for education at sec-of-state.ps@education.gsi.gov.uk to put forward our case. We recommend a short bullet point email with the following information included: A consistent subject title: Immanuel & St Andrew School, Streatham Funds needed for expansion A reminder of the facts: Our school has taken 3 consecutive years of 60 pupils per year and the huge demand in this area of Streatham is not reducing (in fact, in 2011 we saw 155 applications for our school an increase of 300% in two years) A local authority feasibility study has concluded our school site suitable for permanent expansion A recognition that our campaign is part of a wider national campaign to release more funds for primary school pupil place expansion. We support Lambeths bid to obtain 50 million for wider primary school pupil place expansion projects. Finally, please do provide your name and address and any other contextual information that links you to our school, e.g. the year group of your children, ages of any younger children. Over the mid term break we will running a picture/poster campaign competition that will ask the children to represent our particular school situation in colourful and creative ways. More to follow on this tomorrow. Many thanks for your ongoing support for this important local issue. Yours sincerely, Mr Robinson Headteacher
