Innovative Solutions for Deployment of BigData and Disaster Management Applications on

Clouds

Sobre:
Dr Rodrigo N. Calheiros is a Senior Lecturer in Information and Communications
Technology. Dr Calheiros is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA), an AWS
Certified Solutions Architect (Associate), and received the IEEE TCSC 2017 Award for
Excellence (Middle Career Researcher).
Before joining WSU, Dr Calheiros was a Research Fellow in the Department of Computing
and Information Systems at the University of Melbourne. Dr Calheiros is better known for
being the lead designer and developer of CloudSim, a tool that enables model and
simulation of cloud infrastructures and enable repeatable and controllable research of new
policies for management of cloud computing platforms without requiring the deployment of
large (and expensive) infrastructures. The software has been used by many Universities and
Organizations around the world.
Dr Calheiros is interested in all aspects of resource management in distributed systems. His
interest in the last years has been on cloud computing and related technologies, including
Internet of Things, Edge (Fog) computing, Big Data, and Blockchains. In the past, he also
worked with cluster and grid systems. His research interests also span across applications
and programming models for all forms of Distributed Systems.
