The moral lesson I have learnt from the book

The main moral lesson that I have learnt from the book is that you should not chase
unattainable wealth and believe that money will help solve all problems. And what's
more, consider that with the help of money you can buy someone's love.
Gatsby is an example of the American Dream in the way he earned his money and
earned himself a quick social standing, but the one thing which tormented him was his
broken heart. Daisy is the character that turns Fitzgerald's story from a tale of lost love to
a story of unhappy lives.
The author conveys that morality has little value to the characters in Gatsby
because they can do everything in order to achieve their dreams and fail to think about
the consequences of their impulsive actions. Any morals in the book are ignored when it
comes to obtaining status and wealth. Jay Gatsby is a prime example of this claim, as he
committed crimes such as bootlegging in order to gain money and fame. The characters
in this novel trade their beliefs for the hope of being acceptance. Jay Gatsby bases his
whole life on buying love with wealth, and Daisy, who instead of marrying the man she
truly loves, marries someone with wealth.
Gatsby makes it his life's mission to become rich, thinking this will be sure to win
Daisy over.
Although Jay Gatsby also exhibits moral corruption in his own way, he along with
the other members of the lower class in the novel fall victim to the moral failings of those
in the upper class. Jay Gatsby did make immoral decisions in his life, but in the end, his
wealth was not able to save him like Tom and Daisy Buchanan’s wealth saved them. But
whoever Gatsby is, he is still sympathetic to me. He is an unhappy man.
And summing up, the basic moral is that indifference can rightfully be considered
a manifestation of the highest cruelty. It can destroy the belief that you can count on
someone else's help, that you are important to someone. It is worth remembering that this
is the most powerful weapon of cruelty in the hearts of people.
Also, the American Dream is just a false hope. I think that "The Great Gatsby"
was written to show us our flaws. So we must all learn to do this, we must be ourselves
and never change for any reason or anyone.
