ANTHROROMETRYAIN) CHILDREN) WATH}HIV: //AIDSJRECEIVING/ARV/THERARY, (@) SJ RSDM Department of Pediatric Faculty of Medicine Sebelas Maret University /, PAIGE eS, OBJECTIVE Malnutrition is a common complication of HIV and AIDS infections that can accelerate disease progression and increase morbidity as well as mortality. Nutrition assessment and support must be included as integral part of the care plan for infants or children with HIV infections after the antiretroviral (ARV) therapy is started. ARV drugs have serious side effects such as lipodystrophy syndrome that occurs due to redistribution of adipose tissue. This study aimed to determine the effect of ARV therapy on changes in anthropometric index of HIV / AIDS children with adequate nutritional intake. The one group pre-posttest design (quasi- experimental) study was conducted in children with HIV / AIDS by assessing changes in anthropometric index in subjects before and six months after ARV therapy. Adequate nutritional intake was assessed by using feeding rules questionnaire. Analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Statistics 19. iS There were 21 study subjects. Before receiving ARVs, there were 3 over nourished, 14 wellnourished, and 4 undernourished subjects. After receiving ARVs for 6 months, there were 2 overnourished, 1 obese, 17 wellnourished, and 1 undernourished subjects. There were no significant changes in anthropometric value after 6 months of antiretroviral therapy (p= 0.137). By giving adequate nutritional intake, a six months ARV therapy does not affect on the nutritional status of children with HIV / AIDS anthropometrically. 1.
