90 N° UNIT Sa Grammar: Reported Speech Direct speech is the exact words someone said or wrote Reporied speech is retelling exactly what someone said or wrote, without using their actual words There are three types of Direct Speech ‘A. statements which can be reported: B. questions C.commands/requests Direct Speech Reported Speech STATEMENT © THATCLAUSE “The plane will be late,” they said. > They said that) the plane would be late. ‘© QUESTION ¢ WHCLAUSE or IF-CLAUSE “Why are you late?” she asked. > She asked why I was late. “Are you feeling well?" he asked me. > He asked me if] was feeling well. + COMMAND/REGUEST © TOINFINITIVE “Don't touch it!” he said. .
