DEFINING Relative Clauses
- Essential information.
- We can use “that”.
- We can omit the relative pronoun if it isn’t the subject of the relative clause.
This is the boy who/that is living in Japan now.
This is the boy (who/that) I met at school yesterday.
My sister whose name is Lucy is 12 years old.

NON-DEFINING Relative Clauses


- Additional information.
- We use commas.
- We can’t use “that”.
- We can’t omit the pronoun.
This is Mark, who is living in Japan now.
My sister, whose name is Lucy, is twelve years old.
