Topic: Scientific research should be carried out and controlled by the

governments rather than private companies. Do you agree or disagree?

Some inviduals think that the responsibility for conducting scientific research
should be taken by private companies and not by the governments. From my point
of view, I am totally in favor of the view that governments have duty to do these
scientific research.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that most private companies do research with
a view to promoting their marketing strategies and maximizing profits rather than
helping citizens. By contrast,the governments tend to pay more attention to studies
that can benefit society as a whole. In addition, some scientific projects could only
be done by the governments. Take medical research for example, in the situation
that COVID-19 pandemic takes place seriouses, vaccines for this kind of virus
must be developed and produced widely to meet the demand of many countries.
This research might take a great deal of effort and finance, which cannot solely
afforded by private companies.
On the other hand, although private companies are given the right to do
scientific studies, they have to be managed by the governments as some of them
might do research for illegal targets or monetary gain. For instance, few companies
focus on developing biochemical weapons that can pose a serious threat to the
society.
In conclusion, according to these benefits I have mentioned, there is no doubt
that governments should be responsible for carrying out and governing scientific
research.
