(BARITONE B.C.) eb Horn DAILIES t— HORN DAILIES TUBA DAILIES d ne | NEIL A. KJOS MUSIC CO. ~ PARK RIDGE, ILLINOIS The Use and Purpose of the DAILIES For Brass Instruments ‘These DAILIES have been divided into Six Parts so that they are usable logically by the young brass player as well as by the advanced student or professional. Books may be used individually or in an ensemble of all brass instruments. Part I, divided into three groups, ‘A’, ‘B' and ‘C’, presents a series of routines in the range of a Major 10th. This makes it possible for a brass student of perhaps six months’ playing experience to use the exercises for embouchure building and flexibility. The advanced student or professional will use Part Ias preliminary embouchure and breath control ‘dailies’. The exercises involve Harmonic, Chord, Diatonic and Chromatic passages. Part I, also divided into ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’, extends the range to a 13th and starts a gradual extension of range which moves progressively through Parts IV, V and VL It is not expected that all of the routines be played each day but that one entire Part or one section of each Part be practiced daily according to the ability and re- quirements of the performer; Le.: Group ‘A’ of any or all of the Parts may be played on any one day and Group ‘B' of any or all of the Parts on the next day and Group ‘C’ of any or all of the parts on the following day, It is also possible to play all the No. I Exercises throughout the book as a daily workout followed on subse- quent days by all of the No. II Exercises,.No. Ill Exercises and so on. Also, one or more of the Exercises in Part VI, which deals with triple and double. tongueing should be practiced daily. Unexpected enharmonic notations have been purposely used throughout for the development of eye, ear and muscular discipline. ‘The DAILIES should be played at various tempi for the development of breath control, intonation and tonal quality. WILLARD L MUSSER is director of Bands and Instructor of Instrumental Music and Methods at the State Teachers College in Potsdam, New York. DAVID GORNSTON is internationally known for his instrumental methods and studies. - The Publisher Finger ings, witha few exceptions, have deliberately been omitted in both Eb and F Horn Books as optional octaves must be provided to accommodate mixed brass classes and the individual extension of range and also because these books will be used by Alto Horn (with F and Eb Crooks), single Bb Horn, Eb Horn, F Hornand double French Horn players.
