This method of inspection provides a permanent record of the weld quality which is available for review by all interested parties. The limitations of the technique are that it only provi specify the actual depth of any defect, if present. In addition, dependent on the orientation and geametry of certain types of defects ( fine linear defects such as lack of fusion, etc.) can be missed by this method if the orientation of the defect is with an angle correspondent to the radiation beam. Upon completion and visual acceptance of a weld which is subject to radiography, a request for radiographic inspection shall be made by either the controlling engineer or welding inspector. The request shall be entered into the schedule for radiographic inspection and forward to the radiographic technician for execution, 6.1.3. Radiography shall only be performad with a reasonable safety distance from working sites or at times where the work site is clear of all non radiographic discipline personal. The area of exposure shall be designated a “controlled”; area all radiographic teams shall consist of a minimum of two people , trained and qualified. Radioaraphers must be other than the classical EPP the right ‘os tools for protection against radiation as dosimeter film and sound radiation detector 6.1.4 Prior to commencing exposure of the isotope alll safety precautions and requirements as stated section 10.0 ( radiation safety), shall be implemented, The area in which the isotope is to be exposed shall be treated as a controlled area and only Classified personal shall enter. The boundaries of this controlled area shall be identified with waming signs (in both English-Frances and Arabic) Under no circumstances shall be permitted for any persons who are not ciassified workers to enter to the controlled area the radiographer shall locate and identify the weld to be radiographer and mark the weld 6.1.5 The number tap shall be positioned, together with all weld identification data and film cassette, For multi exposure welds, the minimum fm overiap is 40 mm of the DFL . The lead screens used shall be clean and in good condition, with a thickness of 0.125 mm (front) and 0.25 mm (rear), and shall be in direct contact with the radiographic film. 9.3 Radiographic Films: Defines the different film sizes, film class uses and brand names ( See Table 03 X Radiography shall be carried out using wire type IQ's and fine grain film. "Medium speed, direct type film, fine grain film shall be taken to be Agfa D7 or equivalent and “Ultra- fine grain, high contrast film” shall be taken to be Agfa D4/D5 or equivalent. X-radiographic techniques shall be used for shop-tabricated piping up to 25 mm thickness and where the X-ray technique is impractical, gamma ray may be used subject to IA approval. In-each case, the technique shall be qualified using source side IQ! wire type penetrameters. The welds to be examined shall be selected such that the work of each welder or welding operator is included. 9.42 Interpretation of radiographic Images: All radiographic films shall be viewed in a darkened room on a suitable purpose made viewer, which shall have both a normal radiographic image viewing light and intensifying light. The radiographic image on the film shall only be examined and interpreted by personnel who have sufficient experience and knowledge to do so. The length of an individual indication of IFD exceeds 2 in.(50 mm). 'b. The aggregate length of indications of IFD in any continuous 12 in. (300 mm) length of weld ‘exceeds.2 in. (60 mm). c. The aggregate length of indications of IFD exceeds 8% of the weld length. 2.13.27 Internal Concavity: Internal concavity (\C) is defined in 3.2.8 ( API 1104 pag.2) and is shown schematically in Figure 18. Any length of internal concavity is acceptable, provided the density of the radiographic Image of the internal concavity does rot exceed that of the thinnest adjacent parent material. For areas that ‘exceed the density of the thinnest adjacent parent material, the criteria for bun-through (see 11.8.8) are applicable. 9.43.2.8.1 A burn-through (BT) is defined as a portion of the root bead where excessive penetration has caused the weld puddle to be blown into the pipe. 9.13.2.8.2 For pipe with an outside diameter greater than or equal to 2.375 in. (60.3 mm), a BT shall be considered a defect should any of the following conditions exist: a. The maximum dimension exceeds 4/4 in. Isolated slag inclusions (Sts) are irregularly shaped and may be located anywhere in the weld. For evaluation purposes, when the size of a radiographic indication of slag is measured, the indication’s maximum dimension shall be considered its length. 9.43.2:9.2 For pipe with an outside diameter greater than or equal to 2.375 in. (60.3 mm), slag inclusions shall be considered a defect should any of the following conditions exist: aa. The length of an ES! indication exceeds 2 in. (50 mm).Note: Parallel ESI indications separated by approximately the width of the root bead (wagon tracks) shall be considered a single indication Unless the width of either of them exceeds 1/32 in. The minimum safe distance for the barriers shall be calculated and during radiographic inspections or at any time when the isotope is exposed, the radiation shall be monitored at the barrier safe distance to ensure that it does not exceed (7.5 usv / hour). The safe distance for barriers shall be determined by Survey meter. 10.6.3 Radiation Monitoring & Dose Assessment: The individual TLD's wom by all classified personnel shall be changed out every three months and the dosage absorbed by the individual, recorded on their transfer record, which shall be maintained and updated by 1A. This record shall be an exact duplicate of the records held by the approved dosimeter service. Should the dosage exceed that of the maximum permissible limit, then they shall not be permit_ ted to continue to work with radioactive sources until recertified and examined thoroughly in accordance with classified medical requirements. Whenever any radioactive source is exposed the full use of calibrated dose meters shall be made to continuously monitor radiation levels at the barriers. Should the radiation levels at the barriers ever exceed (7.5 psv / hour). then radiography shall cease immediately and the barriers moved back until such time as the reading obtained by the dose meter is less than 7.511Svh -1 10.6.4 Permitted Radiation Dose Levels (Maximum): ‘The maximum permitted daily dosage level for all personnel shall be 7.5 usy.
