Introduction to Cell Biology – Podcast Transcript

Hello class! This is Mr. Benton. In our next lesson we will be beginning our unit on
cell biology, and I wanted to use this brief podcast to spark your curiosity and get
you thinking before we meet again.

Who knows what a cell is? I don’t mind spoiling it for you, because I know most of
you have been exposed to cells in middle school.

Cells are the building blocks of life. All living things are made of cells, including
humans. Cells are tiny, much too small to see with the naked eye, but humans are
big, so they must be made up of many cells, right? That’s correct, the average
human has about 37.2 TRILLION cells in their body.

You have different body parts, all with different functions, so your body contains
many different types of cells to accomplish those functions.

My challenge to you before our next lesson it so either ask someone at home OR
do independent research to discover one more fact about cells that you can share
with the class.

Thanks for listening, stay curious, and I’ll see you next time.
