Basic engine data and measurement:

1. BORE – diameter of the cylinder.

(mm, cm, inch)

2. STROKE – length of stroke, distance between top and bottom dead center positions.
(mm, cm, inch)

3. ENGINE OR CRANKSHAFT SPEED – speed of rotation of the crankshaft (rpm).

4. PISTON DISPLACEMENT = area of piston * stroke

(sq. mm, sq. cm, sq. inch)

5. TOTAL PISTON DISPLACEMENT = piston displacement * no. of cylinders

6. BORE-TO-STROKE RATIO = cylinder diameter divided by length of stroke, b/s or b:s

7. PISTON SPEED = 2 * stroke * rpm

8. COMPRESSION RATION = (piston displacement + clearance volume) / piston displacement

9. MECHANICAL EFFICIENCY, % = bhp/ihp*100

10.bhp = ihp*ME/100

11.BMEP = mep *ME/100

12.SPECIFIC FUEL CONSUMPTION, kg/hp-hr or lb/hp-hr.
