Title:

Development of Offline Instructional Video of Basic Folk Dancing Steps among Grade 7
learners of Sto. Tomas District
Rationale:
The global pandemic has greatly affected the education sector of the country which resulted to the
closure of learning institutions, face to face classes and learner’s engagement in collaborative tasks. The
Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) has been engineering the best learning modality mechanisms to
surpass the challenges of the pandemic to the Filipino academe (Philippine Department of Education, 2020).
There are adjustments to the teaching and learning process particularly on the part of making the subjects more
interactive and comprehensive, since distance learning is mostly applicable to continue education in schools.
Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) is one of the main components of basic
secondary education which is considered to have a transition when to be taught this new normal. In terms of
having four components, the topic focuses on the holistic development of the child. In addition to finding future
athletes, dancers, actors and actresses, physicians and nurses, a MAPEH teacher must also find future singers
and musicians. As a result, they must execute a variety of tasks in order to bring out the best in the students
(Gantan, et al., 2015).
Physical Education's nature aims to develop learners' significant capacities in body maintenance, treatment, dev
elopment, and recovery through actual practices, to learn self- and others' mental states, to know and be able to
control emotions, to be a part of society, and to train learners' knowledge (Natalia et al., 2020).
On a specific note, folk dancing can be learned through a variety of instructional methods in today's
digital environment. It progressed from traditional teaching methods to advanced technology-based learning.
The pace of innovation in teaching folk dance has aided many teachers in developing more accessible, creative,
and dynamic instructional materials. Technology integration such as instructional videos in folk dance
education can be a terrific way to motivate students to learn more effectively.
One of the most common traditional methods for teaching folk dance is for a teacher to demonstrate folk
dance routines while students watch and perform. The teacher shows and explains the step-by-step procedure
for completing whatever task the students are assigned at the end of the lesson. Videos and other multimedia
technologies in teaching have come a long way and offered distinct benefits to the educational process during
the last five decades. It has resulted in student-computer instructional contact in a variety of contexts, with or
without the assistance of a teacher. Priskila (2018) did study on interactive multimedia based on computer
assisted instruction and discovered that it is very effective in increasing students' interest in learning and
improving their outcomes. According to Shaoyan and Yunijan (2012), multimedia technology has the potential
to increase the quality of physical teaching and student learning.
There are few studies on the use of technology in the subject of teaching folk dance. Researcher believes
that combining conventional teaching methods with modern technical tools can help to improve learner-
computer interaction in a range of settings, with or without the help of a teacher (Lacker & Many, 1997). As a
result, the purpose of this research is to determine the skill of the Grade 7 students in basic folk dancing steps
through the developed offline instructional video at Calanigan National High School amidst pandemic.
With this research, it can be a great tool to help students who are struggling in learning the said topic. It
can also be used as an improved way of facilitating distance learning education or when time comes that face to
face class is possible.
Research Questions
Generally, this study seeks to identify the skill of the Grade 7 students in basic folk dancing steps
through the developed offline instructional video in this new normal education. Specifically, it will find answers
to the following:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
a. age
b. sex
c. General Weighted Average on MAPEH
d. Performance level on dance
2. What is the effect of developed offline instructional video to the respondents’ basic folk dancing
skills?
3. What are the respondents’ basic folk dancing skill on the developed offline instructional video when
grouped according to:
a. Modular learning
b. Online learning
4. Is there a significant difference between the respondents’ profiles and respondents’ skill on the
developed offline instructional video when grouped according to modular and online learning?
5. Is there a significant relationship among the respondents’ profiles, effect of developed offline
instructional video on the basic folk dancing skills and respondents’ skill on the developed offline
instructional video when grouped according to modular and online learning?

Theoretical and Conceptual Framework

The digitization of teaching tools in physical education, particularly dance, can be advantageous to both
teachers and students. They believe that incorporating digital technology into the teaching of physical education
and dance can improve the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. According to Shariffudin et al.
(2011), the usage of digital courseware in the teaching and learning process has proven to be useful and
effective. This research incorporates software that is designed to provide teachers and students with new ways
of teaching, learning, and organizing classroom experiences in the subject of Philippine Folkdance.
In today's world, modernization is a significant deal. To produce competitive learners and nurture 21st-
century instructors, the educational system must adapt. Multimedia tools can help teachers and students grow
together. According to Mohamed and Rheem (2010), using a digital courseware resulted in a better outcome in
the teaching and learning process, and it may effectively guide educators in the preparation of the lesson.
However, the courseware must be designed, produced, and monitored when correctly applied. Using a digital
courseware can benefit both instructors and students because it is flexible, self-paced, and very handy to use.
The conceptual framework will be used to build and validate the developed offline instructional video for basic
folk dancing steps. It will create something creative and satisfying to match the demands and interests of the
educational system of the twenty-first century.
The researcher uses the ADDIE model to identify an offline instructional video of basic folk dancing
steps that will be developed and implemented in 7th Grade Junior High School pupils, as indicated in the figure.
This is appropriate for creating any instructional material, particularly digitally. It is widely utilized and quite
versatile, as it may be used for both traditional and modern teaching methods. It is divided into five phases, each
of which takes only a few minutes to complete. The offline instructional video of fundamental folk dancing
moves may be effectively validated using the ADDIE model since it consists of two forms, a formative that
focuses on the process performed throughout the model and a summative that users of the courseware can
evaluate and provide feedback. Following an analysis of the need and the content of the offline instructional
video of basic folk dancing steps, it will be evaluated by experts from the fields of Curriculum, Dance, and
Fitness in terms of functionality/effectiveness, accessibility, technical, teaching presence, and cognitive
presence. The same experts that completed the development phase evaluation will conduct a final review based
on the comments and suggested improvements.
Offline Instructional video would be a great help in teaching Basic steps of Folk dancing among Grade 7
learners who are in Modular Distance learning Modality and Online learning Modality and it can be effective
and beneficial to both teachers and learners. Through giving them offline Instructional video, it can increase in
the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process.
The conceptual framework will serve as a guide in developing and validating an offline
instructional video about Basic Folk Dancing steps among grade 7 learners amidst Pandemic. It will serve as a
way to create a more satisfying teaching-learning process and meet the needs of the 21st century learners.
The researcher will use the ADDIE model ; Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate.
The researcher will develop and design an offline Instructional video.
Research Method

The main purpose of this study is to develop and validate an offline instructional video about the basic
folk dancing steps among Grade 7 of Calanigan National High School amidst pandemic. The researcher will use
developmental research method.(search the meaning of developmetal research). The study will manifest the use
of offline Instructional video to students of Calanigan National who are in Modular and Online Learning
modalities. This involves analyzing the needs, develop an instructional video and evaluate the design of the
video. It is developmental research because the purpose is to create and develop an offline instructional video as
an aid or tool in teaching the Basic steps of Folk Dancing among Grade 7 learners of Calanigan National High
School with the use of ADDIE Model; Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate.
The researcher based the study the developed offline instructional video for basic folk dancing steps on a
developmental research method which has been defined as "the systematic study of designing, developing and
evaluating instructional programs, processes, and products that must meet the criteria of internal consistency
and effectiveness" (Seels & Richey, 1994, p. 127).
This study will use the quasi-experimental pretest-posttest group design to determine the level of
performance of grade 7 Junior High School students in teaching folk dancing steps using the developed offline
instructional video. This design used two intact classes, which randomly assigns the experimental group or the
control group. The pre-test was given before the conduct of the lesson to both groups. The experimental group
were taught using developed offline instructional video of basic folk dancing steps, while the control group
taught using the modular-based instruction. The researcher gave a posttest to both groups after the conduct of
the lessons.
