Language, due to its specific properties, is one aspect that makes human beings unique in comparison to

other animals and species. Therefore, Linguistics is one of the fields that are being studied and
developed strongly by plenty of scientists these days. Particularly, the relationship between language
and thought are considered through the Sapir-Whorf or the Linguistic Relativity Hypothesis.

The Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is established by anthropologist Edward Sapir and his student Benjamin
Whorf, answering the question of whether thoughts mold languages or languages shape the way people
think. Through research conducted on Native American languages, this hypothesis states that languages
restrict the world people perceive every day. Many people assume that the words that they speak
influence their own culture and also the reality they feel.

However, in my opinion, I believe that our thought processes take responsibility for our speech, not in
the opposite orientation.

Language is the method that people use to communicate with their societies. However, people must
also undergo learning and improving their level of grammar and vocabulary until they completely
conquer their language thinking is different between each person and it has a strong impact on their
language acquisition process. To show an example, a professor with a mature point of view and many
years of work experience will have a deeper and larger language capacity than his student. Or maybe
take a more specific example, in Vietnam; nevertheless, speaking the same language, when the way to
solve problems or cultural enrichment in each region is different. For an instant, dissimilarity in customs
between the southern and the northern, Northern people have traditions of learning and rigorous in
their daily lives. In contrast, Southern people do not value education and openness in manners. Because
of that reason, if people spoke the same language, they could hardly think in the same way.

Overall, language plays an important role in our thought processes and vice versa. There is no certainty
whether the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is correctly true or not. Alternatively, my own view on the matter is
that Language is the most effective communication bridge in human society and a powerful way of
expressing personality through linguistic thinking, but, it does not help mold the way we thinkThis
interaction will be continuously researched and discovered in the future days.
