INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
A business process is a set of actions taken by a number of stakeholders to accomplish a
specific objective. A task is allocated to a participant at each stage of a business process. It
serves as the essential building block for a number of related concepts, including process
automation and business process management. Despite the abundance of information that has
been published and spoken about business process management, it is crucial to comprehend
why it is so crucial to your company.
Business process mapping is a potent tool used in business process management (BPM) to
graphically represent process phases and demonstrate how a process ought to run from
beginning to end. This method presents business processes visually so that all stakeholders in
your organisation may comprehend and follow them. Charts, flowcharts, and symbols are
used in business process mapping to address the following three crucial inquirie ssuch as
•To use process discovery techniques to pinpoint and formally establish the fundamental
business processes in a company.
• To compile "As-is" process flaws and assemble important data sets proving these flaws.
PRIMARY SOURCES
The core information was gathered through in-person interviews, conversations with
company employees, and on-the-job physical observations.
SECONDARY SOURCES
The secondary sources comprised: Office records, organisational manuals, and annual
records. Departmental manuals, the company's official website. The information gathered
from the company's department handbook enhanced this report with important details and
made it easier to comprehend each department's specific workflow.
• Employees of the company keep some confidential information, such as financial and
marketing information, to themselves.
Since no research activities are being conducted, there is no other option for locating the
issues.
• The study only lasted 20 days; given this short time frame, it is impossible to complete the
investigation adequately.
CHAPTER 2
INDUSTRY PROFILE
GLOBAL SCENARIO
The home furniture market, office/corporate furniture, hotel furniture, and furniture parts are
the four primary categories into which the global furniture market can be divided. According
to a world bank study, home furniture accounts for 65% of the production value globally,
followed by corporate/office furniture (15%), hotel furniture (15%), and furniture parts (5%).
The arranged furniture market is anticipated to expand by 20% annually.
The rapidly expanding consumer markets of asia are anticipated to contribute significantly to
this increase, indicating great growth potential for the indian furniture industry. Due to the
current boom in the global economy and real estate market, the global furniture sector is
expected to experience significant expansion in the near future. The global furniture sector is
expanding as a result of rising disposable income.
The furniture industry produces a wide variety of home furnishings as well as interiors for
businesses, residences, and organisations. The economic crisis in 2009 had a significant
impact on the furniture business in industrialised nations including the us and europe,
however the market saw growth in 2010. The furniture sector in developing nations like china
and india offers a large scope for expansion in the foreseeable future. Future expansion of the
global furniture market is anticipated to be driven by the market in emerging nations.
The expansion of the global furniture industry is being driven by growth in the global
economy, the real estate sector, and urbanisation. The competitive environment of the
furniture industry is significantly influenced by low cost furniture producers from china and
vietnam. To draw in new clients, furniture manufacturers are placing more emphasis on
retailing their goods. The lack of competent labour, transportation, and cost-cutting, however,
present serious obstacles for the furniture sector.
With an emphasis on the uk, us, france, india, and china, the paper analyses the worldwide
furniture market. Analysis has been done of the industry's drivers, trends, and difficulties.
The big corporations are also profiled in the report, along with a review of their primary
business plans. We have forecasted the future development of the global furniture market
using the data integration and analysis capabilities of spss inc.
To ascertain the industry's future course, we used a number of critical variables that have an
impact on it and built regression models using spss base. Using normal spss output, such as
charts, tables, and tests, the association between a number of independent or predictor
variables and the dependent variable was examined before deploying the regression model.
The furniture industry is very large. International trade in furniture increased by 36% between
1995 and 2000, outpacing global merchandise trade overall (26.5%), clothes (32%) and
footwear (7%). (1 percent ). With a total global trade value of us$ 57.4 billion in 2000, it
surpassed clothes (us$ 51 billion) and footwear as the largest low-tech sector ( uss 36.5
billion). In the european union (eu), extra-intra imports of furniture increased by 20% from
1995 to 2000, compared to a growth of 17% for all extra-intra imports into the eu.
Furniture has historically been a resource- and labor-intensive sector that includes both big-
volume companies and locally based craft businesses. With the introduction of flat-pack or
ready-to-assemble designed furniture, mass-producing furniture became a practical
production technique. The companies were able to create, produce, and distribute products in
big quantities thanks to this product innovation. Mass-producing flat-pack furniture
companies often provide goods for low- to medium-priced markets.
Manufacturers of solid wood furniture have held onto significant niche market sectors,
mostly for high-end, pricey, and design-driven products. While mass-produced, high-volume
products are typically offered both locally and abroad, these specialist products are typically
bought locally,6 are from developing nations. (viz. Brazil, china, indonesia, malaysia, mexico
and thailand) and 4 transition economies (such as slovenia, poland, romania, and the czech
republic). These ten nations frequently import little and export a lot of furniture. Italy is by
far the largest net exporter of furniture among industrialised nations.
NATIONAL SCENARIO
According to estimates from 2006, the indian furniture market was worth millions of dollars.
Of this, $1,358 million (us) is spent on imported wooden furniture, and imports are increasing
by 50% to 60% annually. With a 17% share of global furniture imports, india was the largest
furniture importer in the world in 2004–2005. During this time, 10,476 imports of furniture
were sent to india, the majority of which came from china, korea, malaysia, indonesia, the
philippines, italy, germany, and spain. A small portion of india's gdp is made up of the
unorganised sector, which accounts for about.5% of the country's furniture industry.
a three-tier selling and distribution structure, consisting of the distributor, wholesaler, and
retailer, is typically used by manufacturers in india. The a, b, and c category cites dominate
the market (the top 589 cities). 33% of the market is made up of cities a and b together. The
market is expanding steadily as a result of a strong economy and rising family and
institutional spending. Similar to the global furniture market, the indian furniture market is
dominated by home furnishings, which account for around 65% of all furniture sales. This
was followed by the segment for office furniture, which had a 20% share, and the segment for
contracts, which accounted for the remaining 15%.

STATE SCENARIO
Solid wood furniture manufacturers have maintained significant niche markets, especially for
high-end, pricey, and design-led products. In kerala, expensive and design-led flat-pack
furniture tends to supply products for the low- to medium-price market. While mass-
produced, large-volume products are typically sold locally and for export, these specialised
products are typically bought locally.
From that point forward, fit's primary business activity has been producing wooden furniture
to satisfy the demands of the keralan government and the commercial sector. In kerala, fit is
the only government-owned business that specialises in making hardwood furniture and
joinery. Its key asset is a 50-year history of producing consistently high-quality items that are
both durable and beautiful.
.
COVID ANALYSIS
Due to the pandemic and shutdown, online orders for furniture have grown dramatically. The
COVID-19 epidemic that occurred in the early days of 2020 significantly altered the furniture
industry. The countries that rely heavily on imports for their furniture needs have been
severely impacted by the disruption of the supply chain and the temporary suspension of
global trade. The COVID-19 pandemic has also made it clear how crucial it is for this sector
to stop depending on imports and to advance digitalization and automation.
CHAPTER -3

The guys who created furniture underwent a revolutionary change as a result of the increased
technical sophistication. Whereas formerly carpenters and joiners manufactured furniture as
well as every type of wooden building construction, a number of factors came together to
give rise to a new profession: cabinetmaker. The introduction or reinstatement of veneering,
first in western europe, then in britain, north america, and other places, was the most
significant
