Hello guys!
Welcome again to our grammar section.
In this video, you will learn how to use the simple
past to describe events in the past.
It’s an interesting topic! Let’s start!

Remember that we use the simple past for finished

actions.
For example:
Mika was my best friend in school.
We were hosts of the Pan American games in 2019.

We use other verbs in past tense too, for example:

I arrived late at the university.
My friend got up early today!

We form affirmative sentences using the subject +

the verb in past tense. For example:
I liked the movie. Simple past of Video
1’40’’
Susy went to the movies last night. other verbs

The simple past is the same for all persons, e.g. I

arrived. You arrived. He arrived. or I ate. You ate. He
ate.

We form the negative with didn’t (did not) + the

base form of the verb.
I didn’t like rock music when I was 10.
NOT I didn’t liked rock music when I was 10.

We form yes/no questions in this order:

Auxiliary + subject + base form. For example:
Did you play soccer?
NOT Did you played soccer?

We form Wh- questions in this order:

Question word + auxiliary + subject + base form?
For example:
When did you play soccer?
NOT When did you played soccer?

Keep in mind that we often use some expressions

with the past simple: … ago/ yesterday/ last ...
For example:
I celebrated my birthday two days ago.
It rained yesterday.
My brother cried a lot last week.
