They kept on cutting trees only to use tree trunks as rollers for the giant stone statues in
order to move from one place to another. Suddenly, the society collapsed leaving half of
the statues. Since then, the Eastern Island experienced massive environment
degradation brought on by deforestation of the whole island. Trees had been
continuously cut down to provide space for agriculture, fuel for heating and cooking,
construction material for household goods, pole-and-thatch houses and canoes for
fishing. This deforestation also resulted drastic effects on everyday life for the
population generally. The trees that they can use as a shelter, food source, nets from
the mulberry tree are no longer available because of their own actions.

2. Yes. Because we all know that the Earth has a lot of trees before, but with the
modernization and innovation happening, trees are being cut down to make use of the
place for buildings. The Earth doesn’t have unlimited resources so let’s value and take
care of what we have right now. We are too busy enjoying the modern life. Let’s take a
lesson from what happened with the people in Eastern Island. When all the trees died,
the society slowly grew, and they had a hard time getting the resources they need.
Eventually, the people died too due to cannibalism and other causes. We will not let
that happen to us. Even with this grow of modern environment, the nature must grow
too.
