This learning activity will help attain the intended learning outcomes of this module and
will solidify the objectives of the module.

Direction:

1. List all the partitions of {a, b, c}.

1. ∅ ,{a,b,c}
2. {a},{b,c}
3. {a,b},{c}
4. {a,c},{b}
5. {a},{b},{c}

2. How many equivalence relations are there on A = {1, 2, 3}?

R={(1,1),(2,2),(3,3),(1,2),(2,1),(2,3),(3,2),(1,3),(3,1)}
There are 5 Equivalence Relations

3. Given the following set:

D = {4,5,6,7,8}
R1 = {(4,5), (4,7), (4,8), (5,5), (5,6), (5,7), (5,8), (6,6), (6,7), (7,8), (8,8)}
If relation R1 reflexive? Please justify.

Relation R is not Reflexive as (4,4), (5,5), (6,6,), (7,7), (8,8) ∉R

For any a ∈ R, we have (a, a) ∉R since a cannot be strictly less than a itself.
In fact, a = a.
So R1 is not reflexive
