Placement Test Teacher’s Guide

Thank you for participating in the pilot of the Prepare! Placement Test. This test is designed to help you
quickly and accurately decide which level of Prepare! is best for each of your students.

There are ten questions for every level of the Student’s Book from Prepare! Level 2 to Prepare! Level 7 in
the pilot Placement Test. These questions test the grammar and vocabulary that appear in each level of
the Student’s Book.

Placement using the answer key

Initially, mark the first 30 questions on the student’s answer sheet using the answer key.

If the student scores less than 25 out of 30, stop marking and place the student according to the table
below.

If the student scores 25 out of 30 or higher, continue marking the rest of the answer sheet and place the
student according to the table below.

Score Placement
0–9 Prepare! Level 1
10–18 Prepare! Level 2
19–27 Prepare! Level 3
28–36 Prepare! Level 4
37–45 Prepare! Level 5
46–54 Prepare! Level 6
55–60 Prepare! Level 7

Placement using the marking overlay

Photocopy or print the marking overlay onto transparency film and place it over the student’s answer
sheet so that the two grids align. The black-shaded boxes on the overlay indicate correct answers. An
uncovered ‘X’ mark on the student’s answer sheet indicates that the student has answered the question
incorrectly.

You should place the student at the level where he or she starts to frequently make mistakes.
