Course Assessment 1.1

Direction: Solve for the following:

1. A 230-kV transmission line is 100 mi long. The conductor is ACSR of _(a)_ MCM. The conductors are
horizontally arranged with 20 ft spacing. The resistance per mile is 0.0969 Ω. What is the impedance of the
line?

For (a), take the last three digits of your student number, change all zeros to 1.
Example: 2016190041 so (a) = 141 MCM.

2. Find the GMR of the unconventional conductor shown below in terms or radius 𝑟 of an individual strand.

3. The distance between conductors of a single-phase line is 10 ft. Each conductor is composed of seven equal
strands. The diameter of each strand is 0.1 in. Show that 𝐷𝑆 for the conductor is 2.177 times the radius of each
strand. Find the inductance of the line in mH/mi.
