CHAPTER I
THEORY

1.1 Defiition Of Scada

SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) is a category of software
application program for process control, the gathering of data in real time from remote
locations in order to control equipment and conditions. SCADA is used in power plants as
well as in oil and gas refining, telecommunications, transportation, and water and waste
control. SCADA systems include hardware and software components. The hardware gathers
and feeds data into a computer that has SCADA software installed. The computer then
processes this data and presents it in a timely manner. SCADA also records and logs all
events into a file stored on a hard disk or sends them to a printer. SCADA applications warn
when conditions become hazardous by sounding alarms. [1]
1.2 Structure of SCADA
The block diagram of SCADA system shown in the figure represents the basic
SCADA architecture. The SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems are
different from distributed control systems that are commonly found in plant sites. When
distributed control systems cover the plant site, SCADA system cover much larger
geographic areas. Above figure depicts an integrated SCADA architecture which supports
TCP/IP, UDP and other IP based communication protocols as well as industrial protocols like
Modbus TCP, Modbus over TCP or Modbus over UDP. These all work over cellular, private
radio or satellite networks. In complex SCADA architectures, there are a variety of wired and
wireless media & protocols involved in getting data back to the monitoring site. This allows
implementation of powerful IP based SCADA networks over landline, mixed cellular and
satellite systems. SCADA communications can utilize a diverse range of wired and wireless
media. The choice of the existing communication depends on the characterization of a
number of factors. The factors are remoteness, available communications at the remote sites,
existing communications infrastructure, polling frequency and data rates. These factors
impact the final decision for SCADA architecture. Therefore, a review of SCADA systems
evolution allows us to better understand many security concerns. [2]

1.2.1 Human Machine Interface

It is an input-output device that presents the process data to be controlled by a human
operator. It is used by linking to the SCADA system’s  software programs and databases for
providing the management information, including the scheduled maintenance procedures,
detailed schematics, logistic information, trending and diagnostic data for a specific sensor or
machine. HMI systems facilitate the operating personnel to see the information graphically.
[2]

Figure 1. 2 Human Machine Interface (HMI)

2
1.2.2 Supervisory System
Supervisory system is used as server for communicating between the equipment of the
SCADA system such as RTUs, PLCs and sensors, etc., and the HMI software used in the
control room workstations. Master station or supervisory station comprises a single PC in
smaller SCADA systems and, in case of larger SCADA systems, supervisory system
comprises distributed software applications, disaster recovery sites and multiple servers.
These multiple servers are configured in a hot-standby formation or dual-redundant, which
continuously controls and monitors in case of a server failure for increasing the integrity of
the system. [2]
1.2.3 Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)
Physical objects in the SCADA systems are interfaced with the microprocessor
controlled electronic devices called as Remote Terminal Units (RTUs). These units are used
to transmit telemetry data to the supervisory system and receive the messages from the master
system for controlling the connected objects. Hence, these are also called as Remote
Telemetry Units. [2]
1.2.4 Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
In SCADA systems, PLCs are connected to the sensors for collecting the sensor
output signals in order to convert the sensor signals into digital data. PLCs are used instead of
RTUs because of the advantages of PLCs like flexibility, configuration, versatile and
affordability compared to RTUs. [2]

1.2.5 Communication of Infrastructure

Generally the combination of radio and direct wired connections is used for SCADA
systems, but in case of large systems like power stations and railways SONET/SDH are
frequently used. Among the very compact SCADA protocols used in SCADA systems – a

3
few communication protocols, which are standardized and recognized by SCADA vendors
– send information only when the supervisory station polls the RTUs. [2]
1.2.6 SCADA Programming
SCADA programming in a master or HMI is used for creating maps and diagrams
which will give an important situational information in case of an event failure or process
failure. Standard interfaces are used for programming most commercial SCADA systems.
SCADA programming can be done using derived programming language or C language. [2]
1.3 Benefits of SCADA
This application stores a history of the kilns’ different operational configurations, so
that when there’s a case of optimal performance one can extract all data relating to how that
was achieved and replicate those conditions, such as:
 Frequency inverter configuration
 Burner output
 Motor speed
 Temperatures and cycles
 Oxygen levels in the kiln
 Pressure settings
 Fan status
1.4 Definition of Software Elipse
Real-time SCADA platform for mission critical applications, Elipse E3 is a well-established
SCADA platform, offering scalability and constant evolution for several types of applications, from
simple HMI interfaces to complex operating centers in real time. Developed to meet current and
future connectivity requirements, E3 is the ideal SCADA system for your project, no matter the extent
of your needs. With high-performance communication and connectivity to over 400 different devices,
Elipse E3 features advanced programming resources for real-time management of industrial,
wastewater, and infrastructure processes, integrating all these systems into a single architecture.
Integrated to all other Elipse products, Elipse E3 comprises an advanced supervisory solution that
allows you to visualize and operate the system via tablets and smartphones, generate indicators,
handle massive data, and generate application alarms. [3]

Chapter III
Analysis
The results of the experiments that have been obtained are the first thing to do is
create a domain like in Figure 2.1 after creating a domain that must be done is to make a
substation. Making substation itself can be done in the power configuration section of the
electrical modeler tab for details of the steps for making the substration contained in the
practicum module. in figure 2.5 while SE2_AL2 in figure 2.6.
After successfully making a substation the next step that must be done is to import the
screen on the electrical model power configuration by pressing right click, before importing it
makes a screen first where this screen aims to merge the import display as shown in Figure
2.11. In Figure 2.7 is an import screen from SE1 , Figure 2.8 is an import screen from SE2,
Figure 2.9 is an import screen from SE1_AL1 while in Figure 2.10 is an import screen from
SE2_AL2 after merging the next steps to run the domain, then E3 viewer will automatically
appear as shown in Figure 2.12.
After E3 viewer is successfully made according to the module then the next step that
must be done is to add discrete measurement on the power configuration tab by pressing add
and discretemeasurement1 will appear after that edit the name to LR as shown in Figure 2.13
in the default convension then press add 2 times to add semantics after that edit the name to
remote and local according to the module instructions, as well as the analog tab press add
then analogmeasurement1 appears edit the name to TOL in accordance with the module.
After successfully making discrete measurements and analog measurements then the
next step is to make a demo tag in the data organizer after that enter the address correctly
according to the module, after making commands, measurement, cmdbreakerposition,
cmdLR after that run the domain program then what will happen is to be able to edit breaker
with conditions open or close and remote or local as in Figure 2.15.
After the step is successful then what must be done is to enter the driver and OPC
using modbus.dll after that add the configuration in accordance with the module as in Figure
2.16 after that enter the address correctly in accordance with the module and then make a box
with the name vamp40 on the initialscreen in accordance with Figure 2.17. After the step is
successful, the next step that must be done is to make a frame where the frame is used for
display scada do the steps in accordance with the practicum module.

Chapter IV
Conclusion

4.1 Conclusion
Suggestion that can be done in practicum is SCADA is a system that is used to
monitor or control all plants from a long distance in the company, but many Indonesian
companies use SCADA as monitoring data of all plants in the company.
4.2 Suggestion
In the next practicum, the PC in the practicum should be clean from various virus
shortcuts and ruasomeware so that when doing the practicum there are no obstacles.
