A Measure for Employee Empowerment in Indian Work Setting

The purpose of this study was to construct an employee empowerment scale in the Indian
context. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from the respondents belonging
to public and private sector managers. The aim of this study is to understood the importance
of various dimensions of empowerment and its relationship with employee engagement in the
Indian setting. Techniques like exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis
were used to validate the dimensions of employee empowerment. Four major dimensions viz.
control, seamless communication, intrinsic motivation and support were derived from a 19-
item scale. The results of the study emphasize on the importance of empowering employees
which leads to better engagement, heightened motivation, increased commitment and less
turnover intentions. Treasured employees who are the right ones to make value for the
business and customers are the empowered employees. According to this article if employee
are empowered and have intrinsic motivation ,have a seamless communication , have support
in there work environment then we can say they are satisfied.

The present study understood the importance of various dimensions of empowerment and its
relationship with employee engagement in the Indian setting. The results derived from the
present study emphasize on the importance of empowering employees which leads to better
engagement and less turnover intentions

Development of Managerial Competency Scale: A Telecom Sector

Managerial competencies engender employees’ effective job performance and are a great tool
for exploring the unknown potential of employees through appropriate human resource
practices. Measuring managerial competencies is a method of knowing the underlying
characteristics of an employee and tending to promote for a particular job. This study
develops a scale to gauge the presence of managerial competencies in managers contributing
in organizational growth. Telecom industry was selected for research and sample identified
was its middle level managers of whom 108 were studied. Since these managers liaison
between top and lower level employees, their competencies define organizations’ success.
The Managerial Competency Scale measured Analytical Thinking, Interpersonal
Relationship, Decision Making, Emotion Handling and Innovativeness. Basically the study
tell us about the most important managerial competencies which play significant role in their
performance and industrial relationship between other companies if the employee perform
better with respect to industrial relations then we can say employees are satisfied.

The study presents employees’ most important managerial competencies which play
significant role in their job performance. This study identified and analysed the most
important parameters of measuring managerial competencies, and came up with a statistically
established managerial competency scale. The results show expected outcomes meeting
theoretical aspects in most of the cases and accomplishment of the purpose of this research.
The researchers had tried to fill the academic and practical lacuna demanding particular
managerial competencies that are necessary for management specialists and generalists, in
order to work successfully in contemporary business scenario
