Basic Mechanical Engineering Instruments

● Ruler/Scale
- used to determine lengths and other geometrical values.
● Vernier Caliper
- used to measure external as well as internal diameters of shafts, thickness of parts,
depth of slots and holes etc.
● Micrometer
- used in measuring small parameters.
- has two types: inside micrometer which measure the inside diameter, and outside
micrometer for measuring outside diameter.
● Bore Gauge
- used to measure the diameter of any hole.
● Thermocouple
- used to measure the temperature at a specific point in the form of an electric
current.
● Measuring Tape
- used to measure length or width.
● Engineering Square
- used to measure angles and mark straight lines.
● Dial Gauge
- used for precise measurements of small lengths and displacements.
● Angle Plate or Tool
- used to determine the precise correct angle of an item or two objects when they
are connected.
