Noisy operation of Recirculation pumps @ MVC

61-P-1004/1006 FOR T1,2&3

Given:
Case A Pump running with actual operating parameters (Noisy and high vibration levels)
1- Ps = 15 psi
Pd = 50 psi
Ts = 225 F
s.g = 1.15
Power = 374 Kw
Current = 22.3 A
Case B Pump running with distellate water for test (Normal running)
Ps = 13 psi
Pd = 42 psi
Ts = 225 F
s.g =
Power = 336 Kw
Current = 20.1 A

(NPSHA )Available net suction head = Static suction head + Surface pressure - Friction - Vapor pressure

From Charts friction head for 36'' & 20'' suction pipes = 0.105 ft
From Tables Vapor pressure (assume water with s.g = 1) @ 225 F = 18.85 PSI
(NPSHA )= (15+14.7)*2.31-0.105-(18.85*2.31) = 24.9 ft
Vapor pressure
From data sheet
(NPSHA )= (15+14.7)*2.31-0.105-(15.3*2.31)
(NPSHA )= 33.159 FT
At 12 Dec. 2008 suction sump temperature was 230 F Vapor pressure = 20.74PSI

(NPSHA )= 20.59 FT
FROM AQUATEC DATA SHEET (NPSHA )= 34 FT (INCLUDES 3 FT MARGIN)

(NPSHR)=[N * (GPM)^0.5 /S]^1.33

Normal suction specific speed(S) = 9000 As gould recommendations

From aquatec data sheet Q= 17000 GPM

Motor RPM = 990

(NPSHR)= 34.5 FT

FROM AQUATEC DATA SHEET (NPSHR )= 29.7 FT at RPM = 960

AT RPM = 990 (NPSHR )= 31.58 FT

The Unit is
Cavitated

Recommendations:
1- Increse evaporator liquid level 13 ft above recent evaporator level (60%)
with the same sump temperature 230 F
2- Increse evaporator liquid level 8 ft above recent evaporator level (60%)
At the fluid temperature = 225 F
3- Change pump design , for example install impeller inducer to increse (NPSHA)
