Abbreviations Stitch Guide

Abbreviations are the short forms of longer puff - puff stitch, usually assigned in pattern
words used in a typical crochet pattern. rem - remaining
rep - repeat
Abbreviations in patterns may have capital letters rnd(s) - round
and usually reflects puntuation of sentence struc- rs - right side

dbl - double [ ] - Do instructions in brackets the suggested
dc - double crochet number of times
dcfp- double crochet front post ( ) - Do instructions in brackets the suggested
dec - decrease number of times
dir - directions * - Repeat instructions from this point.
dnt - do not turn ** - Indicates there are two different repeats
dtr - double treble within the same sentence that overlap.
ea - each
ex sc - extended single crochet Contraction Abbreviations
fl - front loop These abbreviations are meaningless without
flo - front loop only being combined with another abbreviation to
fp - front post tell you which stitch is assigned.
fo - finish off/ fasten off/fasten on
foll - following bp - back post (example: trbp)
gr - group blo - back loop only (example: dcblo)
hdc - half double crochet fl - front loop (example: hdcfl)
hk - hook flo - front loop only (example: scflo)
in - inch tog - together (example: dc4tog)
inc - increase
inst - instructions When reading abbreviations, say it as the full name. For
lp - loop example, ch, do not say c-h, say chain in your mind or
out loud.
mr - magic ring
pat st - pattern stitch They are typical, should there are more but usually the
pm - place marker designer will indicate the abbreviation plus give its mean-
pc st - popcorn stitch ing.
