The Second Revision of IRC Code of Practice for Road Signs was reviewed by the

Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Committee of the Indian Roads
Congress in its meeting held on 13th October, 2010 based on comments received from
some members and it constituted a Sub-group with Shri Nirmal Jit Singh as the Convenor
and including Shri D.P. Gupta, Dr. (Mrs.) Geetam Tiwari and Shri S.B. Basu as members to
review the code and suggest modifications/amendments if any required. The Sub-group after
deliberations further Co-opted Prof. P. K. Sikdar, Shri Jacob George and Dr. Surinder Mohan
as co-opted members of the above Sub-group considering their rich experience. The entire
Sub-group reviewed the document in detail and restructured it by relating size and spacing
of signs with respect to design speed of the road, including guidelines for selection of retroreflective
sheeting, incorporating some new signs and including illustrative examples of sign
plans for different commonly occurring situations. The modified code was considered by
the Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Committee (Personnel given
below) in its meeting held on 13th September, 2011 and approved for forwarding to IRC for
consideration by the Highways Specifications and Standards Committee after modifications
based on comments of the members.
