1. Identify the global context that enabled absolute rulers to come to power.
2. Examine the influence of absolute rulers of France.
3. Understand the importance of the Enlightenment movement in France.

PLANNED INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES

Opening activity/context setting (e.g., bellringer or warm-up):


● Show a video or “digital” tour of the Palace of Versailles. Symbolizes the King’s
“grand style” as well as show the wealth that the nobility lived in.

Specific tasks & steps of lesson, methods, and/or strategies (e.g., teacher will…students
will…):

1. Discuss what students observe from the digital tour of the Palace of Versailles as well
as what questions they have regarding the Palace as well as how it relates to the lesson.
2. While following slide shows, students are to fill in the guided notes that will be
provided to them with the information given to them by the slides.
3. On question slides, students are to take a moment to think critically on what their
answers might possibly be using their background knowledge. After that they are to go
on to Pear Deck to submit their answers. Once they are done, the teacher will discuss
the answer on the next slide.
4. READING: Students will complete a paired reading and answer the following
questions.
i. Questions:

powerful ruler in French history?
iii. 2. How old was Louis XIV when he began his reign?_
iv. 3. What group of people hated Cardinal Manzarin?

Formative assessment(s):
Students will be assessed during the learning process by answering Pear Deck questions that
occur throughout our PowerPoint presentation. By doing this, we can ensure that students
understand the content so that they possess the key foundational knowledge to complete our
lesson’s primary assignment.
