Film: The Hunger Games

1: what are the main characters are how are they conventional to the genre?
Katniss Everdeen: she knows how to hunt which is an advantage in surviving.
She is also very oriented with her family which is the cause of her volunteering
herself in replacing her sister.
2: what is the narrative and how are they conventional to the genre?
This movie is about a teenage girl who volunteers herself as tribute for the
hunger games which enters two people from each district one male and one
female and then they must fight to the death with one person standing. This is
conventional to the genre because they are people forced to fight against one
another for their own survival and will to fight for their family.
3: what effective film form is demonstrated?
The film has shown many closeups which is a good way to show the characters
emotions, there are also many scenes out in the woods with no music but just
the sounds of birds and the characters which can leave a strong impact on the
audience.
4: what did you like and dislike about the film?
What I liked about the film is that you will easily like a character if its good and
dislike one if it’s bad. I also like that the film is based on the future and what
could happen to humanity. What I disliked about it though is how cliché some
characters are, such as from the first districts the two tributes are trained to
survive the games there-fore they have a bigger chance to win and they also
act boastful which is a bigger cliché.
5: what elements from the film would you like to use in your screenplay?
The elements of this film in which I would use for my screenplay would be how
the film can become silent and all you would hear is an explosion which builds
suspense. Another thing I would like to import from this into my screenplay is
when the fight begins, the sound and music would be taken out and that
makes the scene so much more dramatic and tenseful.
