1.) Write a 2-sentence synopsis of the article in your own words.

Many millions of people have been lifted out of poverty as a result of globalization.
Although globalization is assisting in the creation of more wealth in developing
countries, it is not assisting in the closing of the gap between the world’s poorest and
richest nations, which could lead to disaster.

2.) What are the positive and negative effects of globalization on the Philippines
— in general — and on you as a Filipino citizen— in particular.

Some argue that globalization is a positive development as it will give rise to new
industries and more jobs in developing countries. Others say globalization is negative in
that it will force poorer countries of the world to do whatever the big developed
countries tell them to do.

Evidence suggests that globalization has a positive effect on the country's economic
growth and employment. In particular, trade openness and foreign portfolio flows have
contributed to higher per capita GDP growth in the Philippines, following the
implementation of FX liberalization reforms

The widening of the gap between the rich and poor people, a result of globalization,
puts the Philippines deeper in the quicksand of poverty and also causes social injustices
among men. The deprivation of jobs and resources from its own citizens causes the
people to die unattended.

However, globalization is also affecting us in a negative way. Increased transportation

and the global shift of polluting manufacturing industries has resulted in environmental
degradation. Pollution is affecting people’s health and having a negative impact on
biodiversity levels globally.

3.) Four effects of globalization in the Philippines and four effects on you as a
Filipino.

A high employment rate is generally considered to have a positive effect on a

country’s GDP. When calculating the employment rate, figures of above 70 percent are
seen as evidence of a healthy labor market while anything below 50 may suggest
inherent problems. Openness is an indispensable enabler of growth, job creation, and
poverty reduction. Trade provides new market opportunities for domestic firms, stronger
productivity, and innovation through competition. Additionally, more players are joining
the game—developing countries now make up close to 40 percent of world trade.
Because the GDP is divided by the total number of workers, the GDP per capita very
closely reflects the ‘average’ revenue per person in the economy. As GDP grows it is
assumed that everyone in the chain will benefit and the growth will have a trickledown
effect on the population, thus improving standard of living. In general, globalization
decreases the cost of manufacturing. This means that companies can offer goods at a
lower price to consumers. The average cost of goods is a key aspect that contributes to
increases in the standard of living. Consumers also have access to a wider variety of
goods.

Globalization doesn’t only affect people in general but it can also affect on us
individually. As a Filipino, globalization helps to enhance my ability to acquire
knowledge, to think independently, to adapt, and to collaborate with others.

4.) Cite REAL/ACTUAL situations to prove your point. Explain your answer.

The Internet is a significant contributor to globalization, not only technologically, but

also in other areas, such as cultural exchanges of art. People in today’s world use it to
communicate and even in school. As the pandemic spreads, so does the use of the
internet, as almost all schools have already adapted to the new normal. It enables
students to cope with their lessons and attend their virtual classes even in the midst of
the crisis. Students and teachers can connect and communicate with one another using
the internet. It enables many students and teachers to easily discuss educational
materials with one another online via internet.
