Mult-hulls oF non-ship shape objects can however be analysed, by using a feature in the seakeeping sub- ‘module to import the Response Amplitude Operators (RAO's) directly from ship motion model tests and in this case the hullform data is not used, 4.2. Objectives = To provide an overview ofthe types of calculations that Hydro can perform, + To import ships modelled in Compartment or directly from offsets and prepare them for processing in Hydro. * Toruna series of calculations on example ships. + To output the results of these calculations, 41.3 Prerequisites * Basic Naval Architecture Knowledge * Basic computer literacy and experience of Microsoft Windows XP. 1.4 Course Structure ‘Training will consist of oral and visual presentations, demonstrations and set exercises. Each workstation will have a training project, populated with model objects. This will be used by the trainees to practice their ‘methods, and complete the set exercises. 141 Sections ‘This course will be broken down into five sections, these are: Getting started in Hyd. Resistance and propulsion calculations. Manoeuvring calculations. ‘Seakeeping calculations, Dynamic Positioning calculations, \Within each section there will be two phases of training, These will be: = Presentation and demonstration by the trainer of the main points contained within that section. = Practical exercises to allow the student to practice the procedures demonstrated, Is the intention that students should watch the presentation and demonstrations and then, with the aid of this guide, to complete the exercises. Any questions about any part of the training should be addressed as they arse. This training course is intended to introduce the new user to Hydro and to enable him/her to use the ‘program quickly and effectively. For this reason the content of the course is not exhaustive with regard to all of the features and functions available within Hydro. The On-Line help gives full details of all the facilities available in Hydro. Any questions regarding features not covered in this Guide should be addressed to your trainer. ‘© Copyright 1694 to current year. 7 AVEVA Solutions Limited and is subsldiares, ‘ll aghts resarvad AVEVA Marine (12.1) Hydrodynamics TM-2007 142 Session Session _Willbe used to introduce Hydro and the content and purpose of this traning course. If you have previously created a new design for the calculation of Hydrostatics using Calo, then this fle may bbe used and hence Section 2.2 below may be omitted. Having either created a new design, or opened 2n existing one, basic information applicable to all Hydrodynamic calculations will be entered. It's intended with this, the first practical section, to lead you through the oorrect process step-by-step since this process is the basis of all further work within Hydro. 2.14 What you will learn © How to accass AM Hydrostatics and Hydrodynamics, and to both open and close projects, + Howto create a new ship in AM Hydrostatics and Hydrodynamics using a hull model defined in ‘AM Surface/Compartment. The upper left-hand pane shows a series of icons labelled with different headings and accompanied by a * sign. From now on these icons will be known a8 PARENT NODES. This pane allows the tree structure for each application branch to be edited and Calculations selected. ‘The upper right hand pane shows two different pieces of information. Firstly, when @ PARENT NODE is highlighted in the laft-hand pane, a table appears in the right-hand pane giving the name of the PARENT NODE and a table of contents. If the + sign is clicked, then one of the related CHILD NODES can be ‘activated and a table is displayed giving Information about the date, time and the last person to create, ‘modify 2¢ calculate information associated with that nade. The second function of the right-hand pane is to display the results of Calculations that have been performed by AM CalcfHiydro. ‘The bottom pane has three functions. The firsts to display a history of commands that have been executed and the time they take, The second function isto display the progress of any Calculations that are currently being run. The third function Is to display any error messages. A third open GL. graphics window can be ‘opened by clicking 2 this shows the hull form and compartments. The view can be rotated using the LHiM bution and zoomes by pressing the CTRL key and the L Hi button together. 2.2.3 Application Tree Structure Clicking the + sign to the left of the PARENT NODE name wil reveal a further list of nodes (called CHILD NODES) which ate labelled either as specific Calculation types or as points for entering supplementary information. Clicking on the + sign of these child nodes brings up a further set of nodes that refer to individual report types. Clicking on ane of these will display the report associated with that Calculation in the top right hand pane. PARENT NODES. From now on LHIM will be taken to mean the left mouse button and FHM wil be taken to mean the right mouse button. In the left-hand pane, the LHM is used to select and highlight nodes, When a node name is highlighted and the pointer over that node, the RHIMI is used to bring up the Tree menu as shown below. The Edit item is then clicked to display the Exit menu for the node selected. This Edit menu allows data items for this node to be entered. ‘Clicking on the Tool Bar Edit icon below can also open the same functions as given on the previously described tree menu Pea Teeeae Sameer 2.25 Tree Menu and Tool Bar functions ‘As can be see from the screenshot on the previous page. this menu allows the User to edit data within the highlighted node and to run the Calculations that are appropriate to that node, This menu also allows the User to create a new child node or to delete an unwanted node. The third function ofthis menu is to enable reports to be printed out via the PRINT and OUTPUT functions, the latter providing the format options of HTML, Latex, XML, LS and OXF. Clicking on Euit will ring up a table (or series of tables) specific to that node. Information for your ship ean Row be entered int the table, |gjo/ Clicking on Calculate | FESEB) wit as its name suggests, begin the Calculation for that node when data connected oniy with that node has been edited lf previously entered global data is changed, this will naturally have an effect on many subsequent Calculations. Highlighting a node and clicking on the Recalculate button re-performs the Calculation for that node using the new global data. Clicking on the Stop Calculation button stops any Calculation that is currently running. it should be noted that this stop process is not always instantaneous but occurs at the next natural break in the processing of the Calculation. This function is gteyed-out until a Calculation is started and only then it becomes active for the User to select if required. Clicking on New Node brings up a table into which data must be input regarding the type of nade to be created and the types of Calculalions/reports to be included within that node, Clicking on Delete Node removes the node currently highlighted. (Clearly, the three Print and Output commands relate to the format of the prin job. Nodes can also be copied and pasted, both using EditiCopy and Edit/Paste commands, and by dragging and dropping. However, a report node can only be attached to the Calculation node that generated it, and Calculation nodes can only be attached to folder nodes. © Copyright 1994 to current year. 5 AVEVA Solutions Limited and its subsilaries, All igts reserved AVEVA Marine (12.1) Hydrodynamics TW-2007 2.3 Opening an Existing Design To open an existing design, ute File> Open orthe Open icon % trom the stondard Too Bar. Belovr is a typical example of heave and pitch RAO's plotted against wave frequency. ‘As can be easily seen, the RAO tends to unity at low frequency. This Is because low frequency equates to a high wavelenath o _2n g 4 ‘and at high wavelengths, the vessel simply moves up and down with the vessel, Hence when the heave RAG is the same as the wave ampltude, the non-dimensionalised RAO is one Athigh frequencies (or short wavelengths) the responses and hence RAO’s tend to zero since many short ‘waves are acting on the vessel and cancel each other out. ‘Somewhere in between, there is generally @ peak. If this peak is greater than unity, then this implies that the vessel motion is greater than the wave amplitude (or wave slope for angular motions). These peaks in the ‘vessel motions occur close to the natural frequencies (or natural periods) of the vessel ‘© Copyright 1996 to current year 65 AVEVA Solutions Limited and is subsiciares, All rights reserved, AVEVA Marine (12.1) Hydrodynamics TM-2007 7.2_Wave Energy Spectrum ‘A wave amplitude energy density spectrum, (normally abbreviated to wave energy spectrum) is a representation of the eneray per square metre of the wave components of the sea surface. ‘The energy ofall the waves having frequencies between w, and w, is represented by the area under the wave erergy spectrum and between these two frequencies. Hence tne total area beneath the wave energy spectrum is representative of the energy of all the waves (all the wave frequencies) ‘Atypical wave energy spectrum is shown below. oa aos are ecu tale ‘As can be seen, waves of very low and very high frequency do not have much energy and therefore do not ‘contribute much to the overall energy of the sea. In general, if someone analysed an irregular wave record at a certain period of time, at a certain location, the resuts would be unique and would never be exactly repeated. Hence we use idealised wave spectra that can be easily modelled mathematically. Each of these spectra is slightly diferent in their shape — some have @ narrow peak, others are wider banded, etc ‘There are many examples of wave eneray spectra derived to model diferent sea areas. The Joint North ‘Sea Wave Project (JONSWAP) spectrum is applicable to areas in the North Sea, whereas the Bretschneider spectrum is more representative of the open ocean, Hydro contains a numiber of such spectra which are suitable for the open ocean and coastal areas, We alsc inciude the capability of modelling any other spectrum that can be written using standard ‘matherratical notation. {© Copyright 1864 to current year. 6 AVEVA Solutions Limited and is subsidiaries Allfights reserved. For example, the mean of the highest “/100 measurements would lead to values of 2.64 a (single amplitude. ‘The following table gives some standard values for working out extreme motions W Sig Value Sig, Value (single amp) (Goubie amp) i 4.25 Vg 2.50 vm, z 4.77 mg 3.54 4m, 3 2.00.im, 4.00 Vm, 10 2.54.\m, 5.08.4, 400 3.34.\m, 6.68 vm, 000 372m, [7.44 .m, ai 40000 [4.29 ve 858 my {© Copyright 1984 to current year. 8 AVEVA Solutions Limited and its subsidiaries.
