UNIT 6 - THE EXCLAMATIONS

• EXCLAMATIONS
As in other languages, in English,
exclamations are a way of expressing
surprise, amazement or extreme emotion. In
general, they are spontaneous and
involuntary comments that do not have a
special grammatical structure but that act as
sentences.
UNIT 6 - THE EXCLAMATIONS

• EXCLAMATIONS

The exclamation is pronounced with a

sudden increase in the voice which may
decrease ( voice falls) in the case of an
affirmative or negative sentence or ascend (
voice rises ) in the case of a question.
UNIT 6 - THE EXCLAMATIONS

• EXCLAMATIONS

After the sharp increase, the voice returns to

its normal level in conversation. Therefore,
the start of the exclamation will have to be
significantly higher than normal (for a descent
or FALL ) and significantly lower than normal
(for a rise or RISE)
