It includes the requirements for the ‘construction, lay-out, materials and the testing of jacketed piping systems. CODES AND STANDARDS ‘This Specification is based upon various engineering standards and codes which are {elerred to where applicable. The paragraph ‘References’ gives a summary of all relevant Standard Specifications. REQUIREMENTS ‘Any exceptions and modifications to this Standard Specification, including mandatory local ‘and national rules or regulations, shall be contained in amendments to this Standard Specification, DEFINITIONS Besides the terms normally used in the oil refinery, petrochemical or similar techniques, see ‘Standard Specification SS-9804 - Terminology and Clarifications. APPLICATIONS ‘Steam jacketing to process piping systems is applicable to a) Process conditions of liquid sulphur lines and vent gasines in which solidification may Occur at temperatures below approximately 120 °C. ') Process conditions of sour gas feed lines and process gaslines to prevent condensation, ©) Process conditions of liquids which solidification may occur at temperatures below 160 °C. For larger pipe size bending combinations a larger size outer-elbow with a reducer before {and behind these elbow has to be used, depending of the size of the outer-pipe. Especially for short pipe pieces the outer-pipe size shall be the same as the size of the required outer elbow. 2.) For detail of jacket to flange joint, see ES-45076 ©) For sour gas lines the end ofthe jacket is welded to the inner-pipe. For detail pipe-joint ‘ot fully jacketed, see ES-45079, 4) The steam jacket for sour gas lines shall not cover line welds. The maximum length of ‘one straight jacketed section is therefore restricted by the joint length ofthe inner pipe which is 6 m nominal or 12 rm maximum. ) The maximum jacket length is also depending on the design conditions of the steam. The material, size and minimum walthickness ofthe inner pipe and the minimum design Pressure of the inner pipe (possibilty of vacuum), The maximum field lengths forthe different sizes, materials, walthicknesses and design Conditions shall be calculated in order to avoid buckling as a result of the external Pressure. The calculations shall be conform ASME as per procedure as outlined in the PV Code, Section Vill, Division 1, UG-28 through UG-30, Stoomwezen D 0301, AD Markblatter or any other code, whichever is applicable (reference is made to Standard Piping Specification of Sulphur BAC-1, classes CY1 and CZ1). 4) Clearance guides to support the inner-pipe on long spans shall be made at distances of ‘approximately 3 m, See ES-45076. Guides to be made of mild stee! strip, 6 mm thick and 75 mm long and to be welded to inner pipe. The height of the guide shall allow for a clearance of max. 1.8 mm. 9) The steam inlet and outlet jacket tapings to be 1/2" or 3/4" sockolets or equivalent. /) For jacket ends as per subs b and c above the distance from flange facing to centreline of tapping shall be as short as possible, leaving enough space for withdrawal of bolts ') Typical construction details of jacketed sections are shown in ES-45074 u/i ES-45079, JACKET CIRCUITS - LAY-OUT AND CONNECTIONS 2) A steam jacket circuits formed by a number of jacket sections (pipe, fitings or valves) which are connected in series by jump-overs. The total length of one circuit shall not exceed 25 m approx. 4) Although each circuit shall be arranged so that the flow of condensate is generally downwards, a small vertical rise, due to lay-out is permitted, provided condensate is drained off at the lowest point, The maximum accumulated vertical pipe rise per circuit however shall be 2 metres, ‘The lay-out of piping and equipment must be such as to reduce potential congealing points to a minimum. The thermodynamic steam trap is a Continuous working trap (which means that insulation of the condensate system shall be for economic reasons oniy), while the inverted bucket type is a discontinuous working steam trap (which shall be horizontally mounted only and which may be insulated as, well. The thermodynamic steam trap shall preferably be mounted horizontally to prevent wear of the disc edge. The thermostatic steam trap works with condensate below the Condensation temperature (between limits adjustable), which means that the condensate Supply line shall be left uninsulated for a certain (minimum!) length, respectable 2 horizontal (under slope) or vertical position. ) Each steam jacket circuit with max. length of 25 m, or max. 6-8 jump overs must be Provided with its own steam trap. CONDENSATE DISCHARGE SYSTEM , Pending project requirements the steam condensate from the steam traps is to be disposed of in 4. the plant sewer system (open system), or 2. the condensate retum system (closed system), For a typical arrangement drawing of each system see ES-45071 and ES-46072.
