My stand in whether Lang Leav’s works are considered poetry or not just like what our
resident poet Lacuesta and Sir Jose delos Reyes. I consider Leav’s works as poems, we live in a
world where change is the only unchanging thing that exists. In my opinion, it is not smart to
always compare the poems we have today to the poems created hundreds of years ago made by
the notable writers and philosophers because if we expect that poetry today will stay the same as
what it is before then it would just mean that culture and society did not evolve therefore saying
that development did not take place or occur. Also, each writer wants to have an identity
especially now in the digital age where people can easily forget things because it feels like
everything is happening so fast and most people nowadays do not dwell themselves into
literature for leisure unlike before. So I think Leav’s approach of poetry is her strategy to make
people read her because it is not that long and she says want she wants to say right away and I do
not say that she does not make people ponder over her works because her works may be not that
deep but it makes people associate it with their personal experience which still gives them
something to think about. Another point is that Leav’s does not want to bore her reading by
making them go around circle while reading her, however, she aims to make her works be
understood by almost every average or normal person and those people who are not into
literature that much. I am not saying that the formalist approach is wrong because it is actually
fun to analyze a text using a formalist approach but I think this approach is more applicable to
the academe and Leav’s poems are not made for the academe but for the people
