What are connectors?

Main function
words or groups of words establish relationship between
sentences in a text

Why they are important?


● help structure a written or spoken speech
● richness and fluency to writings or speeches
Copulative connectors
function: join two events
Disjunctive connectors
function: to give one or more alternatives to the
idea proposed by the previous sentence
Conditional connectors
function: join two ideas in such a way that
one depends on the satisfactory result or not
on the other
Concessive connectors
function: they serve to express an objection
to the main idea of the sentence
Conclusive connectors
function: give conclusion and / or circumstance
to the event proposed in the main sentence
Continuous connectors
function: they serve to add an event related
to the main
Adversative

function: they serve to oppose a difficulty
to the situation presented above
Comparative connectors
function: they serve to express a degree of
equality or difference between two
sentences

function: they serve to express the cause
or objective of a sentence
