January 28, 2011 Albuquerque, New Mexico - Thirty years ago on December 26, 1980, around 3 AM , USAF Airman 1st Class John Burroughs, USAF Staff Sergeant James Penniston and USAF Airman Ed Cabansag were in Rendlesham Forest under orders to investigate highly strange and colorful aerial lights. According to signed and dated statements at the time, John Burroughs and Jim Penniston came close to the lights and a craft of unknown origin on the forest floor. Jim Penniston described approaching a 9-foot-long by 6-foot-high triangular object and touching its black, glassy surface. As his fingers went over raised symbols like Braille in a 3.5 foot long section toward the pointed end of the craft, S/Sgt. Penniston's mind was telepathically flooded with binary code and some information about the intelligence behind the craft and lights. Airman John Burroughs did not remember the craft or S/Sgt Penniston touching symbols. Burroughs has never been able to fully recall what happened to him that night, but the rumors have long been that he jumped up on a craft in the forest or was taken up in a beam of light.

Where Was the December 26, 1980, Encounter?

On Christmas morning, December 25, 2010, I joined John and Jim returning to Rendlesham Forest for the first time together since December 26, 1980. We drove from the East Gate down the same road they traveled thirty years ago. The question for both of them was exactly where did they have their closest encounter with the lights and why don't they remember the same details?

Over the three decades since the Rendlesham Forest phenomena, various maps and sites
have circulated, including the one below produced from statements by Jim Penniston about where he and John Burroughs and Ed Cabansag had the dramatic December 26, 1980, encounter at 3 AM . This map shows the orange-colored route from the East Gate to a right turn on a logging road and then a left onto a road through the forest toward an open farm field where an orange circle marks the alleged site of the encounter - a site that we now know is not correct.

After walking through the forest day and night on December 25-26, 2010, John Burroughs did not feel that the site at the center edge of the farmer's field now marked by a picnic table and UFO signs was correct. He remembered that he and Jim Penniston could only see the Orford lighthouse beacon after they moved across a short field and past a farmhouse. At the modern site marked by a picnic table and UFO signs, there is a farm house straight across the open field. Then there is a second, larger house to the right and then we realized there was a third farmhouse at the eastern end of the finger of trees. We drove by the third farmhouse on the street side and could see animals there. In his memory and December 1980 statement, John Burroughs described hearing a noise like a woman was screaming. Jim Penniston remembers farm yard animal sounds and deer running straight towards him when he and John were walking in Rendlesham Forest trying to follow the aerial lights from the tall forest trees and ran into a small open field next to a larger field.

TriField Meter

I had asked my friend and U. K. engineer Winston Keech, who owns The Power Collective in England, to join us with his infrared, nightwatch, and timelapse cameras as well as his TriField meter that can measure microwave, magnetic and electric fields. Around midnight going into December 26, 2010, Winston and I walked with the TriField meter into the large farm field. Near the center of the field, the meter pulsed and both of us felt electrostatic energy on our backs, necks and heads. Then John and Jim walked together after midnight on December 26th, around the finger of trees that juts westerly out into the field from the third farmhouse (white circle in above aerial). At the red circle area, the TriField meter pegged with a loud noise as high as it could go in the electric/electrostatic range. Winston Keech: When I first detected the anomaly after midnight on December 26, when you and I were near the center of the big farm field, it was set to SUM where the meter adds the readings for both electrostatic and magnetic field variations. A quick check on radio/microwave showed nothing out of the ordinary and so no RF breakthrough signal was present to affect the meter's circuitry or the reading accuracy. So I reverted to checking first the magnetic setting - which showed no abnormal reading. Therefore having identified by elimination that it was an electrostatic field variation alone, I finally maintained the electric setting, which showed the enormous anomalous readings, with a regular 1 meter periodicity within the field. That's also where the meter was set when John and Jim made their long walk around the field to the finger of trees near Capel Green and it pegged with noise.

U. K. engineer Winston Keech's T riField meter pegged out in the electric/electrostatic range at maximum high making a loud noise on both December 26 and 27, 2010, after midnight at a site near the end of the grove of trees surrounding a watery marsh. Both times, John Burroughs was near the meter.

[ Editor's Note: The TriField Natural EM M eter was designed to do field measurements for special research. It detects changes in extremely weak static (DC or natural) electric and magnetic fields, and signals with both a tone and the movement of a needle-type gauge if either the electric or magnetic field changes from previous levels. The meter is sensitive to magnetic changes of as little as 0.5% of the strength of the Earth's magnetic field, and the tone will sound whether the field increases or decreases. A radio and microwave

detector is also included, which reads radio power directly. Because man-made AC electric and magnetic fields are very common and could interfere with readings of static fields, the meter has been designed to ignore AC fields. Normal construction materials don't block magnetic fields, so the meter can be placed indoors and will work equally well, and due to the built-in tone, it can be used in the dark and will sound the tone at whatever level of field the user sets. Finding the Original Craft Encounter Site in Rendlesham Forest

During daylight on December 27, Jim and John think they found the area in Rendlesham Forest where Jim touched the symbols on the black, glassy, triangular craft. From the rolling, fern-covered forest floor (below), they walked down a forest berm straight east only a few yards. They came to the first wire strand fence and a few feet further a second wire strand fence that Jim remembers tripping over, falling to the ground and John helped him back up. That second wire fence runs along the western edge of Capel Green and the big farm field.

The next night after midnight on December 27, 2010, I went with John and Winston Keech back to a place near the Capel Green finger of trees for a night watch with Winston's IR (infrared) cameras and his TriField meter. I videotaped the men in infrared while John and Winston walked to the west end of the finger of trees to see if the meter would peg again at the highest level as it had the night before. It did and John thought he saw one or two blue lights move in the trees around the same time. That night one of Winston's time lapse cameras captured a blue light moving through trees and anomalous orange/red lights in front of the finger of trees.

That second night, John and Winston were walking on the north side of the finger of trees when they both saw that the third house at the end of those trees had a dim, orangish glow, apparently from incandescsent lamps left on inside the house at night. We drove by the house on the street side and could see the orange glow of interior lamps. This might relate to Lt. Col. Charles Halt's observation on December 28, 1980, that he could see red-orange light reflected in the windows of a farm house. Or it might be a combination of the interior lamps and whatever the aerial object was that emitted red-orange, blue and white light.

In the middle of January 2011, after two weeks back in the United States, I asked John and Jim if they would discuss for Earthfiles and Coast radio their return to Rendlesham Forest and the farm field.

Interview:
John Burroughs, former US AF Airman 1st Class in C Flight Law Enforcement, RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge, December 1980, now a resident of Phoenix, Arizona: The first night (December 25-26, 2010), I definitely felt some kind of energy on me. It felt like it was going up my neck, and the TriField meter itself pegged out. It didn't move. It was staying strong right in that whole area (western end of finger of trees marked by red circle in above images).

IN FACT, THE NEEDLE WAS AS HIGH AS IT WOULD GO (electric range) AND DID NOT DROP. Right, it would not drop. It was banging, wanting to go further and it couldn't go any further, yes. THE NEXT DAY, WE ARE IN THE TALL TREES OF RENDLESHAM FOREST ALONG THAT EDGE. THERE IS CAPEL GREEN AND A BIT OF THE FARM ER'S FIELD AND THEN YOU ARE IN RENDLESHAM AND THAT'S WHERE WE WERE WHEN JIM SEEM ED TO BE OVERCOM E BY A FEELING, THIS IS WHERE WE WERE, JOHN WHAT IS IT THAT YOU FELT HAPPENED? Well, when Jim walked away with you to the trees and then motioned for me to come over and then he showed me where the berms were. [ Berms are manmade earth mounds, often dug to prevent soil erosion.] Then he said, I remember tripping here. Then I went forward. It was like Jim went into a trance and he started acting like he was re-living it from thirty years before. He acted like he was walking around it (black, glassy, triangular craft in forest). He was acting like it was there and he was seeing it and then he acted like he touched it. And then, it almost appeared to me like his whole body shook. Jim Penniston said his recall was so strong in front of us in Rendlesham Forest near Capel Green on December 27, 2010, that he could see, hear and feel what happened there thirty years ago. Here now is what he told me.

Jim Penniston, former US AF S taff S ergeant and C Flight RAF Woodbridge S ecurity S upervisor on December 26, 1980, RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge, now a resident of Freeport, Illinois: We were like within ten or fifteen feet of the craft. When I approached the craft, the physical air and the surroundings changed. It was like as if a bubble (a frequency field) was around the area that measured maybe ten to fifteen feet out from this craft. Once I entered that area, different sensations happened. YOUR SKIN AND YOUR HAIR WERE AFFECTED? Skin and hair were like a feeling of electricity. On my clothes, too! Deadening of sound. Then it seemed like everything ran to slow motion. The recall was so strong - the fabric of the craft as I was touching it is very smooth. It looks like black glass. Symbols are running three feet long and a few inches high.

Updated and corrected symbol shapes by James Penniston on December 16, 2010, after Earthfiles discussed his August 26, 1994, hypnosis transcript (below) with Jim. He said the symbols were raised like Braille on the surface of the black, glassy, triangular craft and each symbol had the texture of sandpaper. T he symbols covered a length of about 3 feet on the craft's surface, each symbol averaging about 3 inches high, according to hypnosis.

Then I started touching them. It was actually rough like the feeling of sandpaper. So, I traced with my hands each symbol just out of awe - not sure what I'm seeing! On a repeat of coming back touching these symbols, I get a bright light and I can't see. I have no other vision - I can't see what is going on around me. I just see these symbols (zeros and ones). They start running in front of me. And they are fast - they are coming at me fast! ARE YOU SEEING THE ZEROS AND ONES LIKE THEY ARE IN THE AIR IN FRONT OF YOU? No, they are in my head. I cannot see nothing except those (zeros and ones). AS IF THE TECHNOLOGY HAS SOM EHOW TAKEN OVER THE SYNAPSES IN YOUR BRAIN IN ORDER TO PLACE THESE VIVID ZEROS AN ONES? That's when the activation happened, yes. They over-rode my vision and everything, yes. That was startling and very strange - a very scary moment. You have no control of what is going on. THEN WHAT HAPPENS? Seemed like it was given to me very fast. Then I got the bright light again and that's when the coding stopped.

Jim Penniston Writes Zeros and Ones in His Notebook

I go back home and I finally get about four or five hours of sleep, but I'm awakened

because I just can't get these symbols (zeros and ones) out of my head - almost like you're going crazy! I mean, I know I had a shock. I know it was trauma. I'm wondering if I'm OK? Why would I have these rushing through my head like this? THE ZEROS AND ONES. Oh, yeah! It was just unmanageable, it really was. IN YOUR HEAD, WERE YOU SEEING COLOR? No, they were black and white. I grabbed my notebook again because I wanted to look at the symbols I recorded. YOU M EAN THAT PANEL ABOUT THREE FEET LONG AND ABOUT 1.5 FEET HIGHON THE GLASSY SURFACE THAT WERE TRIANGLES AND CIRCLES IN THOSE ODD PATTERNS. Right, and I had recorded them in my notebook. I was just going back and looking the next day (December 27, 1980), and I still have these ones and zeros in my head. It just keeps repeating! So, I said, Well, I could write those down. M aybe it will help to write them down. I just flipped the pages open and started writing more in the notebook and all of a sudden they stop. I don't have any more. I don't have any more symbols (zeros and ones) in my head. They stop! I go, It's that easy? Just write them down? They were gone. I didn't have to worry about the symbols - they were just gone.

What Energy Pegged Tri-Field Meter?

As John and I watched Jim moving and talking in the Rendlesham trees, John suddenly thought he saw some kind of energy around Jim - and then it was gone! John Burroughs: And then at that point, I had a weird feeling that the whole energy force was gone and I made a comment right afterward, The energy source I think is gone! And then that night, Winston Keech went back out into the field (Capel Green) and it was gone. THE NEXT M ORNING, WHAT DID WINSTON TELL YOU? When I saw him in the morning, he was totally shocked and could not believe that there was no energy source (where it had pegged the TriField meter for two nights in the electric/electrostatic range). WINSTON CHECKED IT WITH THE SAM E TRI-FIELD M ETER THAT ON THE NIGHT OF DECEM BER 25 AND 26, 2010, WE GOT THE STRONG PEGGING. THEN SUDDENLY AFTER M IDNIGHT ON DECEM BER 27TH, HE WALKED ALL AROUND THAT FINGER OF TREES AND HE COULD NOT GET ANY HIGH READING ANYWHERE ON THAT TRI-FIELD M ETER. Right. He could not get any readings. One thing I said earlier to him out there is that I felt the energy moved back towards the coast.

AND I WAS RUNNING HIS IR (INFRA RED) CAM ERA. WHEN YOU CAM E BACK, I REM EM BER THAT YOU SAID, IT LOOKED LIKE I SAW A BLUE LIGHT IN THE TREES. Right, it clearly looked like for brief seconds that you could see like almost a little blue something floating along into the finger (of trees) area and even starting to go out into the field, yes. There's an energy source out there. I'm not telling you it's E. T. or what it is. It clearly is some kind of blue-type energy picked up on camera. What that means, I'm not sure, but there is no doubt in my mind there is some kind of energy field or source out there in that field in that area. WHEN YOU WERE WALKING WITH WINSTON AROUND THE FAR WESTERN POINT OF THAT FINGER OF TREES ON THE NORTH BOUNDARY OF CAPEL GREEN, AS YOU WALK AROUND THOSE TREES, YOU ENTER THAT HUGE FIELD. Right. It's interesting to me that the energy field is still there. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. After all these years. BUT WHY WOULD IT GO AWAY ON THE THIRD DAY AND NIGHT? I honestly don't know. I mean, it could be coincidence that I just felt it. And it could have been back further by the house. It could be a shifting field. I really can't explain why I got that feeling, other than just the way that Jim was acting. And just the feeling I got afterwards. But I can tell you this: I believe it is still there - I just believe it moved back further. And I believe if you went back out there and looked, you would find the energy field still out there somewhere in that area.

THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF INTEREST AND CONTROVERSY ABOUT THE FIVE SCANNED PAGES OF ZEROS AND ONES THAT JIM NEVER M ENTIONED IN THIRTY YEARS UNTIL WE WERE FILM ING IN PHOENIX ON OCTOBER 2, 201. YOU WERE SHOCKED. I WAS SHOCKED WHEN JIM SAID, I REM EM BER WRITING DOWN ZEROS AND ONES. BUT OVER THE 30 YEARS, JIM NEVER SAID THAT HE WROTE DOWN ZEROS AND ONES. WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION TO THE FIVE SCANNED PAGES THAT HE HAS PROVIDED? Jim never approached me and said he had ever written anything down. The only time Jim talked anything about having any problems - this (encounter) happened on a Thursday night into early Friday morning (December 25 to 26, 1980 at 3 AM to sunrise). Then Friday night into Saturday (December 26 to after midnight Dec. 27), they had another incident. Then I was back out there Saturday night with Col. Halt into Sunday morning (December 27 to after midnight to sunrise December 28, 1980). DECEM BER 28, 1980. Right, December 28th. On that Sunday evening on our (C Flight) last day of break and Jim had been gone, I went down to his house to tell him what happened on that Saturday night with Col. Halt to tell Jim, You wouldn't believe that more stuff happened!

Jim just seemed shook up and said he was having feelings coming to him, things that he could not understand and it was bothering him. They were the kind of things he did not feel comfortable with because it just was not normal. That much I remember, but at no time did anything come up with, I'm writing down zeros and ones, or anything like that. WHAT WAS ESPECIALLY INTERESTING TO M E WAS TO GO BACK TO HIS 1994 HYPNOSIS SESSION AND REALIZE THAT HE M ENTIONED THE INTELLIGENCE PEOPLE WHO WERE PUTTING HIM UNDER SODIUM PENTOTHAL HYPNOSIS SOM E TIM E AFTER DECEM BER 26, 1980. THEY ASKED HIM AS IF THEY ALREADY HAD SOM E OTHER KNOWLEDGE - THEY ASKED JIM PENNISTON ABOUT ACTIVATING BINARY CODE.

DID YOU AND JIM PENNISTON EVER GET TOGETHER AFTER SUNDAY NIGHT, DECEM BER 28, 1980, TO DISCUSS WHAT HAD HAPPENED ON DECEM BER 26, 1980? Other than when we got called in when we got called back to duty and had to write statements and turn them in, other than that, we didn't talk about it. It was making Jim very nervous and upset because what he was feeling was not something that he could explain or understand. And that's as far as Jim had ever mentioned or talked to me about anything that could relate possibly to the (binary) codes, other than on that day when we were filming (Oct. 2, 2010) and I saw in his notebook zeros and ones. And I'm going to be honest, I had no idea. I've heard of binary codes and I understood they have something to do with computers and computer programming, but I honestly did not know anything more about it. So, I was completely taken aback about the fact that Jim had written something down, number one - and number two, I honestly did not understand how important it was as far as what could come out of it. I understood that he had clearly written something down, but as far as what it meant, I had no idea at that point.

THE ONE THAT DR. DREW AND DR. REED THINK IS M OST LOGICAL (LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE) IS THE ONE THAT SEEM S TO BE VERY CLOSE TO THE CENTEROF WOODBRIDGE. SOM E PEOPLE HAVE EVEN SUGGESTED THAT IF YOU ALL WERE DEALING WITH SOM E OTHER INTELLIGENCE IN SOM E KIND OF A PROBE OR CRAFT, IT M IGHT HAVE BEEN A SIGNAL THAT JIM PICKED UP THAT RELATED TO WHERE IT WAS - NEAR WOODBRIDGE, ENGLAND. The thing to me that is important now is to identify what the energy source is; to see if there is anything else out there in these (latitude/longitude) coordinates that mean anything; to maybe go to something to see if there is an energy source there. I understand everybody wants to speculate on could it have been contact - and I'm not against any of that. But what is important to me is to see if there is anything important in these 24 locations (latitude/longitude from binary stream has no specified decimal point, therefore there are 24 potential lat/long references) and not worry about is it E. T.? Or what else it could be?
