FORMS

AFFIRMATIVE: S+ V.AUX + V. ING + C

I AM I AM RUNNING.

HE/SHE/IT IS HE IS WALKING.

WE/YOU/THEY ARE WE ARE DRINKING.

NEGATIVE: S+ V.AUX NOT +V. ING + C

I AM NOT I AM NOT RUNNING.

HE/SHE/IT IS NOT HE IS NOT WALKING.

WE/YOU/THEY ARE NOT WE ARE NOT DRINKING.

QUESTIONS: V.AUX + S + V. ING + C +?

TIME EXPRESSIONS:

FORMATION OF –ING

. If the verb ends in "e", we remove the "e" and add "ING".

LIVE---- LIVING DRIVE----- DRIVING

if the verb ends in "ie", we replace it with "y" and add "ING"

DIE---- DYING LIE---- LYING

. If the verb is one syllable and ends in C+V+C, we double the last consonant and add
"ING".

SWIM ---- SWIMMING

STOP -- STOPPING

. If the verb is 2 syllables or more, ends in C+V+C and has greater voice strength in the
last syllable, we double the last consonant and add "ING"

BEGIN --- BEGINNING PREFER ---- PREFERRING

. All other verbs that do not meet any of these rules we simply add "ING"
