Story of Anmol Patel & Kanchan Patel

Shri Sandeep Kumar a resident of Ashrafpur Patti in Kannauj District of Uttar Pradesh, is a
person affected with leprosy who also has grade two deformities in both hands and both feet due
to the disease his life was filled with uncertainty and hopelessness as he was the only
breadwinner of the family.

During his regular participation and improvement in self-care camp organized by NLR, he was
also informed that NLR also provides support to those dependent on leprosy for making their life
better by Facilitate Skill Development training.
With this ray of hope, he met with the CBR Coordinator of NLR India Foundation has facilitated
the Skill Development support of his children ( Anmol Patel & Kanchan Devi).

NLR supported his two children and provided Skill development education from Faizabad. From
a life full of uncertainty now they have worked after skill development training and supported
me.

Anmol has completed his Skill education with support from NLR India Foundation. Now he has
worked in TATA Motor Company at Rudrapur. provided support to me.

Presently Kanchan has worked as a Teacher at Private College confident and She faces the world
and has equipped herself with education to face the challenge in society and job with courage
and confidence to achieve a dignified life for herself and the members of her family.

Mr. Sandeep Patel said NLR came as an angel in his life at a time when he could not see any ray
of hope and was afraid of his children’s future. Now he proudly says that his children will not
have a struggling life as he had due to a lack of financial assistance.

Kanchan further told that she does not feel the stigma of being a child of a leprosy-affected
person instead she educates others that it’s a curable disease and spreads the knowledge of
Leprosy along with its identification and treatment.

She told there was a time when none of her brother and sister was invited to their friend’s party
and ignored in a social gathering but now due to her efforts in awareness generation & dealing
with stigma-related issues, related to leprosy she & her brother & sisters along with family are
accepted in the society & welcomed to participate in social functions & gatherings.

NLR India Foundation regularly touches the family and children to motivate and boost their
confidence for a better future.
