ACURA 4 SPEED
NOISE WHEN SELECTING REVERSE OR FORWARD
COMPLAINT: Harsh engagement from park to drive; drive to reverse; reverse to drive; clanging or gear-
clashing noise.

CAUSE: Worn reverse gear selector; or worn or bent fork.

CORRECTION: Replace reverse gear selector and /or fork.

When the inner teeth on the reverse selector gear wear This is often overlooked when rebuilding
down (EVEN SLIGHTLY) they won't mesh perfectly transmissions because the wear is so slight, but it is
with the teeth on either the reverse hub gear, or the EXTREMELY CRITICAL to smooth drive and
counter reverse gear, and will cause a harsh clanging- reverse engagement.
