Kids Message Food for the Hungry (Based on John 6:1-14) Had you ever heard about the Passover Feast? This was a celebration when the Israelites remembered their escape from the Egypt as slaves. God sent Moses to lead them out of Egypt to a land that He had promised

them. When Pharaoh set them free, they hurriedly left Egypt not having time to let their bread rise. So it was flat rather than fluffy and light. This is why many churches use unleavened bread today when we celebrate communion. Just as the Jews celebrate the Passover Feast to remind them of their freedom, we celebrate Jesus death and resurrection with communion. It was nearing time for the Jewish Passover and Jesus had crossed the Sea of Galilee to get away from the people. A great crowed followed him because Jesus had healed so many sick. When Jesus saw so many people, he knew they must be hungry. So he asked his disciple where they could buy some food to feed them. His disciples thought that was a crazy idea to feed so many people because there was no place to go and buy food for so many you see there was a hugh crowed. Can you imagine inviting your whole class over to eat dinner with you one evening? What would your mom or dad say about that? But Jesus always has a plan. There was a little boy whose mother had sent him a nice lunch for the day. She must have known he would get hungry. This little boy offered his lunch to feed the people. Andrew, a disciple, did not think that was a good idea at all. However Jesus did not agree. He told them to sit down in small groups and then he took the little boys lunch, prayed and began distributing what was in the sack. The disciples helped Jesus with this enormous task. Soon all the people were fed and fully and satisfied. Can you believe that there were even leftovers? The disciples collected 12 baskets full of leftovers. What do you do with your leftovers at your home? Do you throw them away, or put them in containers to eat for another meal. Jesus did a miracle that day and the people were amazed.

Bible Game (Good to verify comprehension and listening skills) Draw a large pond. Cut out blue and red fish. Divide the kids in two teams blue team and red team. As they answer the questions, they place a fish in the pond. See which team gets the most fish in the pond. Give the whole team who wins a gummy worm. You can also just give them a round of applause, or allow them to go first for snacks.
