Objectives

― Improve the firm strategies to revive the revenue in the post-COVID period
― Perform descriptive analysis to understand the business in pre-Covid period
― Estimate Customer preferences for the post-Covid period travel
Background of the Study

― Airbnb business was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic due to travel restrictions
― Revenue in 2Q 2020 was the lowest in New York City
― Strategy has to be formulated to recover the loss since the travel restrictions are lifted
Key Findings: Property Type Preference

― Entire home/apt and Private room are more preferred by the


hosts for rentals
― Both Entire home/apt and Private room collectively account for
97.6% of total hosting in NYC whereas Shared room only holds
2.4%
Key Findings: Neighbourhood Group Pricing

― Entire home/apt price is ~100% more than Private Room except


Brooklyn and Staten Island with ~150%
― Private room price is ~10% more than Shared room except Brooklyn
and Manhattan with ~40%
― Manhattan is costliest overall and the cheapest are:
― Entire home/apt: Bronx
― Private room: Staten Islands
― Shared room: Brooklyn
Key Findings: Min. Nights Stay Preference

― The number of listings cross 15k for min stay below 3 nights
and decreases until a spike is observed at 30 min nights
― Properties with lower prices have more reviews i.e. more
bookings are made for those properties
― Properties with higher number of minimum night stay and
price have lower reviews
Appendix: Data Methodology

― The dataset used in the study which is prior to the COVID – 19 period achieved the desired revenue
― The strategies are decided considering the travel will increase after travel restrictions are lifted
― Min. Night Stay was grouped into 8 buckets
― Due to outliers in Price median is used
