SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION STATEMENT

Assalaamu alykum

My name is Taariq Abdul-Majeed (from Jamaica)

In Jamaica, there is a small number of Muslims (3000 in comparison to a population of approximately 3

million). As such there are limited options for halal/Islamic financing and investments.

In 2015 I did the CIFE qualification, with the aim of setting up a financial institution.

I have a few aspirations: An Islamic School, a charity, a masjid and a financial institution.

The first two I have accomplished and actively engaged, the third I have made contributions towards,
whilst the fourth remains outstanding.

I am very passionate about this, as I know that Islamic Finance is a proven system and can exponentially
enable economic empowerment for all involved, eliminate poverty and is far superior to conventional
finance.

However, this is only attainable if applied properly and understood intimately.

As an accountant in the field, with experience in audit and consultancy across financial institutions,
insurance agencies and well connected with major players in these sectors, I believe I am strategically
poised to realize this ambitious goal of pioneering a successful financial/investment institution serving
Jamaica and the Caribbean

Most recently, October 2021, we have launched a project, “The Upper Hand Project” with the aim of
economic empowerment (interest free loans & benevolent loans), Islamic investments and developing a
credit rating for the Muslim community. This project will be an eight (8) month project inshaAllah.

The aim is to use this as a launching pad to start a financial institution.

As I have completed the CIFE designation, I would really love to do the ACIFE, in order to be better
equipped for my aspirations. However, I am unable to afford payment.

As such, I am humbly requesting a scholarship to do the ACIFE, Financial Analysis
