Theoretical Framework

Music is an important tool in relation to any sporting event or center where physical activity is

carried out. In recent years it has been used as a very important resource for greater satisfaction

and enjoyment of physical exercise, thus creating an increase in the motivation of the

participants and favoring a more conducive environment for its performance. (Brooks & Brooks,

2016).

The use of music in different contexts of physical activity can be theoretically supported by the

hierarchical model of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, since it can influence the type of

motivation experienced (Karageorghis & Terry, 1997). There seems to be a trend that music

improves intrinsic motivation as it promotes enjoyment of the activity, however there is no

current evidence that music promotes extrinsic motivation.

In sport, music has made it possible to regulate emotion and motivation, mobilize the athlete's

energies, regulate attention and induce relaxation, reduce perceived exertion, increase the amount

of work done, improve post-exercise recovery and modify physiological parameters (Bhavsar,

Rahul S, Abhange, & S. Afroz, 2014)
