A Love Letter to Art Appreciation because in my mind, I know that you’re the one.

My Dearest Art Appreciation,

This will probably the first and last time that we will ever encounter each
other so without hesitations, I am taking this chance to express what I feel for you.
The first time I saw you, it was just from afar. Yet, your beauty instantly captivated
my heart. I was very excited to meet you for I could only imagine whenever my
friends speak about you. I wanted to get to know you because there was just
something about you that intriguingly pulled me towards you and just thinking
about it made my heart burst into light.
Because of you, I learned that each art created exists for a purpose. It leaves
a message for us to ravel on our own by analyzing its assumptions, art forms,
function, content, and relevance. Same with people, we can never really judge
someone just by looking at them, we must get to know them on a deeper level for
us to understand where they are coming from and you, you taught me that.
You imparted in me a deeper appreciation for my own language. I didn’t
know how breathtaking a Rawitdawit is until you recited to me many of its pieces.
The Bicol words were magical and mystifying. You even urged me to write my
own keeping in my mind to preserve its elements which are the rhyme, meter, and
metaphor. Mine was entitled “Pungaw” which means longing in Bicol; just like
how I longed for you back then. I created a melody to it also. I learned that when
creating a melody, it should create a feeling or visualization that matches the
message of your lyrics. I really poured my feelings on that one and I really hope
that you liked it.
Aside from words and music, you acquainted me with the world of
contemporary dance, its basic elements, and eight basic efforts of action. It’s
amazing how we can use our own bodies as a means of communication through
movements with the aid of music. You also inspired me to create better videos by
incorporating the basic elements of video editing. And lastly, you also showed me
the secrets to theater acting. Being a theater artist is not easy for you must possess
and master skills using your body and voice to justify the character you are
enacting.
All these months of being with you, despite how short it is, taught me many
things that I will surely treasure for life. Knowing you was even more wonderful
than what I have expected. I knew from the very beginning that you were the one.
The one who will burst radiating colors in my life that I didn’t even know existed
and fill my ears with harmonies sweeping me to places. You changed my life. You
made me realize that art is life, and I, a mundane creature, could create life. You
made me believe in myself, you opened my eyes in another perspective and
because of this, I will never forget how you made me feel. Until we meet again,
Art Appreciation.
