a. What are the merits and demerits of using CSMA/CD method for wireless communications? b, Consider the following network with three wireless hosts. In an equilateral triangle topology with a side distance of D. Assume that the range of the wireless transmission of each host is also D. Consider the following schemes for transmission. * Scheme X (pure carrier sense): Never send when you hear someone else transmitting, but otherwise can send whenever you want. Scheme ¥ (classic MACA): No carrier sense. Nodes wishing to communicate use an RTS-CTS-Data-ACK exchange. Nodes overhearing an RTS wait to allow the CTS to be sent. If no CTS is heard, the node can transmit. Ifa CTS is heard (even if no earlier RTS is heard), the node is quiet for the entire duration of the data transmission. * Scheme Z (hybrid approach closer to $02.11): Carrier sense. Nodes overhearing either an RTS or a CTS are quiet for the entire duration of the transmission (data and ACK), RTS- Request To Send. CTS — Clear To Send. Which scheme may be appropriate for the above 3 node wireless network and why? Consider that host A and B are connected by a store-and-forward router R (as A > R > 8) ‘Assume that the Router R has infinite queue buffer. Also assume that the link from Ato R has an infinite (very, very large) capacity while the link from R to B is only 1Mbps. Unless otherwise specified, there is no traffic in the network besides the traffic sent from A to B. Assume that node A sends a packet to node 8 every 10 msecs. The size of the packet is 125 bytes, including the header. (a) What is the maximum number of packets in R’s queue? (b) What is the averaging queuing delay experienced by A’s packets at the router R? Now assume that the node A sends 250 bytes packets, instead of 125 bytes packets every 10 msecs. {c)_ What is the maximum number of packets in R’s queue? (d) What is the averaging queuing delay experienced by A’s packets at the router R? Now assume that there is an intermittent fallure on the link from A to R, so that 31%, 32°, 33°, ... and 71 packets are all lost, that is, they never reached R. The size of all packets is 250 bytes, and none of these packets are retransmitted (e) What is the maximum number of packets in R's queue? (f)_ What is the averaging queuing delay experienced by A’s packets at the router R?
